  1. China Ratifies the Creation of BRICS Bank

01.07.15 SouthFront Daily DigestThe Chinese Parliament has ratified the creation of the BRICS Development Bank. The New Development Bank was conceived as an alternative to Western financial institutions such as the World Bank.

The new bank will provide money for infrastructure and development projects in BRICS countries, that is Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Each nation will have an equal say in the bank’s management, regardless of GDP size.

  1. Greece Becomes First Developed Nation to Default on International Obligations

01.07.15 SouthFront Daily DigestThe International Monetary Fund has confirmed that it didn’t receive the €1.6 billion payment from Athens that was due by the end of June 30, Brussels time, making Greece the first developed country to default on its international obligations.

IMF spokesman Gerry Rice said in a statement that Greece had asked for a repayment extension earlier Tuesday and that the fund’s board will consider it “in due course.”

01.07.15 SouthFront Daily DigestThe six world powers and Iran have come to an agreement to extend the interim deal on Tehran’s nuclear program until July 7 to allow more time for talks to reach a final deal. The decision was made Tuesday, which had previously been set as a deadline.

“The P5+1 and Iran have decided to extend the measures under the Joint Plan of Action until July 7 to allow more time for negotiations to reach a long-term solution … on the Iran nuclear issue,” Marie Harf, senior adviser for strategic communications at the US State Department, said.

“Groups of Al-Qaeda supporters today attacked the central prison in the city of Taiz and more than 1,200 of the dangerous prisoners escaped,” the Saba state news agency quoted a security official as saying.

01.07.15 SouthFront Daily DigestYemen’s Houthis staged a series of rocket strikes on a residential district of the country’s second-largest city, Aden, leaving at least 20 people dead and 41 others injured, according to several media reports.

“Many of the wounded are in serious condition,” a medical source was quoted by the news agency AFP as saying.

It was reported that the Al-Mansura district, held by loyalists of fugitive President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, was pounded with Houthi rockets in the early hours of Monday.

Some protesters continued to block the main avenue in the government district, while the rest moved to a square nearby to stage a sit-in.

Those stayed on the Marshal Baghramyan Avenue said Wednesday morning that the night passed peacefully, the police took no action against them.

01.07.15 SouthFront Daily DigestA total of 135 bodies have been recovered so far from the wreckage of the Hercules C-130 military transport aircraft in Indonesia, local media reported on Wednesday.

The four-engine aircraft fell in the southwestern part of Medan, the capital of the Indonesian province of North Sumatra, about two minutes after it took-off from the Soewondo air base, crashing into the recently build residential area.
