On January 13, a barrage of rockets hit the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) al-Zeitoun camp near the town of Hizareen in the southern Idlib countryside.
The rockets were launched by Ansar al-Tawhid, an al-Qaeda faction that is allied to Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). The terrorist group released drone footage of the attack. The footage shows dozens of rockets landing at the camp and in its vicinity.
According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the rocket strike claimed the lives of three SAA service members and wounding seven others. The monitoring group’s claims have not been verified yet.
The rocket strike represents a blatant violation of the Russian-Turkish agreement on Greater Idlib, which was signed on March 5 of 2020.
Ansar al-Tawhid stepped up its attack on government troops around Greater Idlib recently. The faction is a member of the HTS-led al-Fateh al-Mubeen Operations Room. Several Turkish-backed groups are also members of the operations room.
The lack of a decisive response by the SAA and its allies is encouraging terrorist groups like Ansar al-Tawhid to violate the ceasefire in Greater Idlib. A new large-scale ground operation in the region can help restore deterrence and liberate more territory.
The sad truth is that SAA will be attritioned in this never ending war and Israel will have no force to oppose it in Syria

SAA is not a reliable force…they need more than one month to take a city and less than one week to lose it….they lost Saraqib and Hezbollah just needed one night to retake it!…thats the sadly truth!..thats why Terrorist partners dont want IRGC&Hezbollah deployed in Syria!
The SAA isn’t a reliable force because Assad needs to ask the Iranians to coordinate with the SAA [and Russia], and then the Iranians have to tell their forces, the IRGC, Hezbollah, most of the Syrian NDF forces, and the Iraqi PMU, to MIRACUOUSLY somehow coordinate their actions with the SAA, phew. that’s not a command structure, it’s a recipe for disaster Too many Chiefs and not enough Indians, that means they can NEVER EVER be truly reliable, it’s VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE.
Terrorist know that Iraqi PMU defeated them in Iraq…now in Syria are deployed beside them…the IRGC and Hezbollah!..because one thing is to fight vs SAA conscripts…but another thing is to fight vs Shia militia…have you notice the diference?…
Yes I’ll agree the Shia soldiers are a lot more effective and usually better trained and armed, even the Russian 5th army corps aren’t as good on the field as their 4th division counterparts, so I can’t argue with the facts, but if they all operated under the one command structure I’m sure they’d all be a lot more effective than they are now.
SAA needs to get used to irregular warfare like ISIS , Hezbollah , etc or chances of SAA winning will be low , Also IRGC Presence in Syria wouldn’t last long due to continuous Israeli strikes .
Israeli airstrikes dont harm IRGC presence….thats attacks are useless because most of the missile are being shot down beside Israel attack SAA to support terrorist morale!…without terrorist on ground…the Israeli& Turkish army are a useless army if they pretend a large ground scale war in Syria.
That’s right, demonize HTS again SF. Ansar al-Tawhid is or was a member of the Rouse the Believers Operations Room alliance, they rejected the Russian political process and still think Jihad is the answer, but Ansar al-Tawhid are allied to the NFL who did accept the Russian political process [and as a reward were designated as a moderate opposition forces], but together the NFL and Ansar al-Tawhid attack the SAA all the time. And as for their affiliation to HTS, this is what their affiliation to HTS really is [but SF refuses to tell you], HTS actually arrests and kills members of Ansar al-Tawhid who refuse to give up Jihad, they don’t help them fight the SAA, only the moderate opposition forces like the NFL help Ansar al-Tawhid fight the SAA. HTS tries to stop them, SHOCK HORROR, yes HTS tries to stop Ansar al-Tawhid fighting the SAA, and they also want them to accept the political process and abandon Jihad. This is common knowledge and published on most other media sources except for pro Russian/pro Iranian/pro Turkish sources, it’s like a badly kept secret that no one on SF has discovered yet. But HTS will have their work cut out for them with Ansar al-Tawhid, they’re not only fanatically mad Jihadists, they’re also mostly foreign nationals, so they can’t actually be included in the political process anyway, so they’ll either have to go home to where they came from or be killed by either HTS or the SAA, whoever gets them first. And is this just misleading or an outright lie,

No they’re not, they’re just allied to a faction that belongs to the moderate opposition NFL, who are allied to HTS through the al-Fateh al-Mubeen Operations Room alliance, there’s a big difference, it’s like saying ‘your sisters nephew’s uncle’s brother in law is part of your family, well technically yes he is, but it’s in a very round about sort of way. The al-Fateh al-Mubeen Operations Room alliance is the only alliance that HTS belongs to, and all the other Operations Room Alliance’s with something other than al-Fateh al-Mubeen in front of them, are mostly opposed to HTS, and every single one of them has Turkish support in some way or another, AND THEY ALL STILL FIGHT AGAINST THE SAA DESPITE THE CEASEFIRE. The problem is groups like Ansar al-Tawhid can belong to multiple factions who then also belong to one or more alliances, which makes it really hard to trace where their real loyalties truly lie, the simple formula to use to help understand the hostility dynamic is this, HTS controls the al-Fateh al-Mubeen Operations Room alliance, this alliance has HTS, the terrorist TIP Uighurs, and the moderate opposition NFL in it’s ranks, Of these 3 groups the NFL who are supposed to be moderate opposition, continually attack the SAA all the time, the TIP Uighurs do too occasionally, but HTS never does [since March/April last year], but they have responded to incursions by the SAA several times. So that’s how that part of that dynamic works out, but then the conflation comes when factions who belong to the NFL also belong to other ‘Operations Room Alliance’s’ with anything other than ‘al-Fateh al-Mubeen’ in front of them, and there are about half a dozen Operations Room Alliance’s, and ALL of these alliances with no exceptions are opposed to any sort of political settlement with the Government, they all want to continue Jihad at any cost. Which basically means the only member of the al-Fateh al-Mubeen Operations Room alliance that doesn’t fight the SAA are HTS themselves, and luckily the TIP Uighurs also usually refrain from fighting the SAA too, mostly because HTS stops them, but the NFL moderate opposition do whatever they want to whenever they want to, and HTS can’t stop them because Turkey fully supports the NFL, so they do attack the SAA all the time, and so do all the other Operation Room Alliances that aren’t called al-Fateh al-Mubeen Operations Room alliance. That’s the most simplistic way to look at it but not entirely the whole story, but at the most basic level I think it’s a roughly accurate assessment, only a genius taking this on as a paid job description could ever really explain the true dynamics, and I’m no genius and no one’s paying me, so this is the best I can do as an explanation.
