Turkish air strikes and artillery shelling have killed 96 civilians, including 22 children, since the start of Turkey’s Operation Euphrates Shield on August 24, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed on October 24.

The UK-based monitor provides a wide range of anti-Assad views and pro-Western views and is constantly quoted by the mainstream media. So, such claims could indicate the attitude of the UK, the US and their partners over the ongoing Turkish military operation in Syria.

The Operation Euphrates Shield was launched by Ankara in northern Syria to fight both the ISIS terrorist group and a Kurdish militia (YPG/PKK) that the Turkish government considers a “terrorist” group.

Ankara says the YPG and the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) are linked to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which has been staging an insurgency in Turkey since 1984.

The PKK is proclaimed a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
