At least 103 Turkish-backed Syrian militants were killed in Libya in the last 72 hours, the Libyan National Army (LNA) announced on March 26.
The slain militants were a part of a large force of the Syrian National Army (SNA), which was deployed by Turkey in Libya to support the Government of National Accord (GNA).
“The fall of this number of causalities prompted the leaders of the so-called SNA of Turkey to issue instructions to prevent the publication of any obituaries for them, prevent condolence councils and to not inform their families all at once, but in batches with periods apart as well as to avoid handing over two bodies in one village,” Brig. Gen. Ahmad al-Mesmari, a spokesman of the LNA, said.
35 of the slain militias were from the Sultan Murad Division, 9 were from the Mu’tasim Brigade, 27 from the Hamza Division, 13 from the al-Majid Corps, 11 from the Northern Brigade and 8 were fighters of al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
In the last few days, opposition activists reported that “dozens” of SNA militants were killed in Libya. However, no exact numbers were provided.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said in a report on March 25 that the total number of Syrian militants killed in Libya is 151. The London-based group, which is tacking Syrian casualties in Libya, is yet to confirm the LNA’s claims.
