About 121,000 civilians have been evacuated from the Damascus subrub of Eastern Ghouta over the past month, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said during a UN Security Council meeting on the humanitarian situation in Syria on March 27.
Meanwhile, an evacuation of militants that had accepted a reconciliation agreement in the southern part of Eastern Ghouta continued. As soon as all the militants that want to withdraw leave the area, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) will establish security in the entire area.
A daily humanitarian pause was introduced in Eastern Ghouta on February 27. Evacuation of large numbers of civilians have allowed the SA to launch a successfull military operation against mitlitants in the area and to re-establish control of about 85% of the region.
In the end I’m surprised how quickly most civilians trapped in this pocket were able to get out. The Jihadis in East Aleppo were far more tenacious in keeping them around as hostages. It’s like as soon as the Jihadi defensive lines broke so did their means to keep control over the civilians.
Correct in guessing that once he lines broke they would fall easily and so ended the means of controlling the civilians. What happened was the great armies of terrorist west fell flat because they hid themselves in the tunnels. Which allowed some people to flee and others later when the SAA approached to those areas. The people in these areas are told the Al Jezeera lies constantly to keep them controlled and a lack of internet and telephone makes information hard to come by.
