13% of total refugees missing in Germany last year

Some 130,000 refugees equivalent to 13 percent of the total arrivals registered last year by Germany are missing.

The German government said in a parliamentary document on Friday that about 13 percent of the 1.1 million refugees registered last year did not show up at reception centers.

The document suggested that some refugees might have returned to their home countries or travelled to a third nation or “gone underground.”

Germany’s migration office also said that the identities of 400,000 refugees in the country also remain unknown.

However, Germany is expecting an arrival of more than 2.5 million refugees over the next five years.

Several experts said that major European powers are to be blamed for the unprecedented exodus. They say western policies had led to a surge in terrorism and war in those regions forcing more people to flee their homes.
