At least 13 Turkish-backed Syrian militants were killed and 19 others were injured in the recent failed attack in the northern Raqqa countryside, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) revealed on November 8.

The attack, that was launched by the Syrian National Army (SNA) with support from the Turkish Armed Forces, was aimed at blocking the strategic M4 highway near the town of Ain Issa in northern Raqqa.

Kurdish fighters managed to hold onto their positions on the highway, despite the heavy shelling by Turkish-backed militants.

In an official statement, the SDF claimed that its fighters destroyed two vehicles, a battle tank and a truck-mounted heavy machine gun during the clashes near Ain Issa.

“In this heroic resistance, 12 of our fighters rose to martyrdom and 7 were wounded,” the statement reads.

The SNA’s attack on the highway is a violation of Turkey’s agreements with Russia and the U.S. on northeast Syria. The region will likely witness more similar attacks in the upcoming few days.
