On March 21, the Hezbollah media wing reported that the Syrian government and the Ahrar al-Sham Movement had reached an agreement in order to evacuate Ahrar al-Sham fighters from the Harasta district in the Damascus subrub of Eastern Ghouta to the northern governorate of Idlib.
Over the past week, several Syrian pro-government and opposition sources reported that the Damascus government and the Ahrar al-Sham Movement had been negotiating with help from Russia. Turkey supported the negotiations and pressured Ahrar al-Sham to accept the evacuation agreement, according to the sources.
Over 1,500 Ahrar al-Sham fighters along with 6,000 civilians are set to leave the Harasta district on March 22, according to the Hezbollah media wing.
A source in the SAA’s 4th Armoured Division confirmed to SouthFornt that the Ahrar al-Sham Movement had started burning its headquarters and ammo depots in Harasta in a clear sign of its commitment to the agreement. Several previous agreements to evacuate Ahrar al-Sham fighters from Harasta have failed, according to the source.
The Ahrar al-Sham Movement was behind the attack on the SAA’s Armored Vehicles Base, which started on November 14, 2017. According to local observers, this offensive triggered the ongoing large military operation by the SAA and its allies in the Eastern Ghouta region.

But atleast when they do start offensive in idlib numbers dont absolutely matter .Them groups if not fight amongst themselves .They have to support,arm and feed them extra fighters as well . Which is easier said then done. So it be easier to fight on idlib front then too figbt them on multiple fronts .

my guess is that SAA fights in too many fronts…the less the better…see how they lost eastern damascus in a couple of days….they cant fight everywhere…so they move them all to Idlib……then nuke them!

Pro-Jihadi Media claimed it was true, citing a Ahrar-Al Sham commander. Although the deal was expected to take place 2 days ago, other militant groups disrupted the negotiations by shelling Damascus but the mentioned commander assured the SAA that Ahrar-Al sham had nothing to do with that, hence why the deal is expected to take place.
On a side note, these are not rebels. Ahrar-Al Sham is a branch of Al Qaeda. Sickens me that people call these “rebels”! Would you accept these into your country?

Over time it has become apparent to me that Assad’s current strategem is to establish total control over the greater Damascus area to serve as a secure and stable base for his overall war effort.
US wanted to keep Eastern Ghouta in turmoil and didn’t care if there are dead people involved. That way if Assad couldn’t keep the center of Syria safe he couldn’t hold an election. They where hoping for a turn around with their jets and missile providing back up.
