Syria’s central region is witnessing another round of heavy clashes between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and ISIS terrorists.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the clashes, which broke out on October 1, are taking place in the Hama-Aleppo-Raqqa triangle and near the town of al-Qaryatayn in the southern Homs countryside.
Warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces are reportedly providing SAA troops with air support. Intense airstrikes are targeting ISIS’ hideouts in the region.
According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 11 Syrian soldiers and 7 ISIS terrorists have been killed in the clashes, thus far.
In the last few weeks, ISIS stepped up its attacks on SAA positions in the central region, especially in the Hama-Aleppo-Raqqa. The group’s terrorists are launching their attacks from their stronghold, the Homs desert. U.S.-backed fighters in the nearby area of al-Tanaf are reportedly backing the terrorists.
The clashes and Russian airstrikes are inflicting serious losses on ISIS terrorists. However, the group is still determined to expand its influence in central Syria.
