2-0: Trump Acquitted In Second Impeachment Trial

Photo: regnum

On Saturday, December 13, former US President Donald Trump was acquitted in the second impeachment trial on the charge of inciting an insurrection for the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. He became the only president to be impeached and acquitted twice in history. Another record is that Trump’s second impeachment trial lasted five days of arguments, making it the shortest in presidential history.

The majority of senators found Trump guilty (57-43), but it was not enough to impeach the former President.  The vote needed the two-thirds majority (67 votes). Therefore, Trump was “hereby acquitted of the charge.”

Seven Republicans joined Democrats in a vote:

  • Sens. Mitt Romney (Utah), B
  • en Sasse (Neb.),
  • Lisa Murkowski (Alaska),
  • Pat Toomey (Penn.),
  • Bill Cassidy (La.),
  • Susan Collins (Maine),
  • Richard Burr (N.C.).

Trump himself refused to attend the trial. His prosecutors said that the refusal can be considered in favor of his guilt. His advocacy considered the impeachment unconstitutional, since Trump no longer holds the office.

Following his acquittal, 45th President Trump released the statement:

I want to first thank my team of dedicated lawyers and others for their tireless work upholding justice and defending truth.

My deepest thanks as well to all of the United States Senators and Members of Congress who stood proudly for the Constitution we all revere and for the sacred legal principles at the heart of our country.

Our cherished Constitutional Republic was founded on the impartial rule of law, the indispensable safeguard for our liberties, our rights and our freedoms.

It is a sad commentary on our times that one political party in America is given a free pass to denigrate the rule of law, defame law enforcement, cheer mobs, excuse rioters, and transform justice into a tool of political vengeance, and persecute, blacklist, cancel and suppress all people and viewpoints with whom or which they disagree. I always have, and always will, be a champion for the unwavering rule of law, the heroes of law enforcement, and the right of Americans to peacefully and honorably debate the issues of the day without malice and without hate.

This has been yet another phase of the greatest witch hunt in the history of our CountryNo president has ever gone through anything like it, and it continues because our opponents cannot forget the almost 75 million people, the highest number ever for a sitting president, who voted for us just a few short months ago.

I also want to convey my gratitude to the millions of decent, hardworking, law-abiding, God-and-Country loving citizens who have bravely supported these important principles in these very difficult and challenging times.

Our historic, patriotic and beautiful movement to Make America Great Again has only just begunIn the months ahead I have much to share with you, and I look forward to continuing our incredible journey together to achieve American greatness for all of our people. There has never been anything like it! We have so much work ahead of us, and soon we will emerge with a vision for a bright, radiant, and limitless American future.

Together there is nothing we cannot accomplish.

We remain one People, one family, and one glorious nation under God, and it’s our responsibility to preserve this magnificent inheritance for our children and for generations of Americans to come.

May God bless all of you, and may God forever bless the United States of America.

The acquittal means that Trump may run for election and hold public office in the future. However, senators may still try to bar him from office in a separate 14th Amendment measure.

Trump’s acquittal is represented as a sign of reconciliation between the new administration and the supporters of the former president. The results of the Senate vote represent the high level of support for Trump among the US electorate that determine the senator’s choice.

At the same time, the acquittal means Trump’s unconditional rightness and the inability to trump up a charge against his policies, despite an ardent desire and deep influence of his adversaries.

The most telling thing about the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election was that if candidate Joseph Biden’s electoral performance of 2020 had been up against candidate Hillary Clinton’s electoral performance from 2016 within Democrat strongholds in a head-to-head, he would have lost.

AM Hants

Yet, we are meant to believe he got over 80 million votes, when he never came out of his basement a millnd when he did, nobody bothered turning up to listen to his campaign speeches. Trump got 75 million votes, more than any sitting President in the history of the US. So, how come Biden managed to get more votes, than any Presidential Campaigner in history. When his inauguration, video views were under half a million and the video for Trump’s farewell speech, had over 6 million views? Something not right.

Jens Holm

Of course its right. In crisis with contrasts many more are voting. We see the same, where I live.

People care less when things seemes to be as usual and things are not bad or that bad. We name many non electers as “Sofa choosers”:9

The something not right is, that people were made that desperate by the ones in Washintoin DC that they voted Trump.

The alternative was Hillary, which they knew many didnt like.

I hope both main parties learn by that and do something about it. REpublicans seemes totally lost. Democrats are better but not well. At least they have some good people here and there.

AM Hants

So absentee ballots, Dominion Voting Systems, Exhumed bodies, underage voters and those not entitled to vote had nought to do with Basement Biden getting the most votes of any US Presidential Campaigner in history?

Nothing touched Teflon Joe, not Hunter, not Ukraine, calling him up for Federal Charges and his dodgy behaviour, calling for the Prosecutor of Ukraine to be fired? Then you have how much money him and his family have made, on the world stage. Remember, Hunter whinging about having to give daddy a cut of the profits? 47 years as a politician, with no war that he did not vote for. With no following and yet he gets over 80 million votes?

Meanwhile, I will go back to munching on popcorn and watching what happens in the car park, just outside the Oval Office, when Basement Biden signs his Executive Orders. Has anybody noticed the car park, outside the Oval Office, before or did it just pop up under the Biden administration? The you have his fleet of Presidential Cars, that for some reason, appear not be be washed and polished, as I try to figure out why. Something strange is going on, over in Washington DC and no doubt it will all become evident after a couple more crates of popcorn. In the meantime, I am still watching the show, waiting for the finale.

Jens Holm

I think they are difficult to compare. She had too much profile and he had too little.

He lookes kind of better now – older and some kind of pondus. He looks reliable now.

He also is more safe. He ragain many Obama attitudes and hopefully he is -. just as Obama – able to do some compromizes with the Republicans.

We will see if he can handle new complicated and more dynamic things. Presidents has to.

The netto for Biden is keep, loose AND win.

“if candidate Joseph Biden’s electoral performance of 2020 had been up against candidate Hillary Clinton’s electoral performance from 2016 within Democrat strongholds in a head-to-head, he would have lost.’

Perception of politicians have to be judged relative to time.

If this were 2016 and all the variables such as the state of the economy, world situation etc were the same you’d be correct however this is 2020 …. ALL the variables have changed. The Trump presidency changed things, the economic conditions and virus changed things and Hillary Clintons reputation isn’t what it was in 2020.

In 2020 Trump was a weak candidate however Hillary was a weaker choice so Trump prevailed among swing voters. In 2020 Biden was a weak candidate however the election was a referendum on Trumps presidency and the voters wanted him out despite Biden.

With a two party system whoever controls the centre wins. Trump owns the voters on the right who would never vote for a democrat. Bernie owned the voters on the left who would never vote for a republican and those votes transferred to Biden by default. The centre was up for grabs and Biden was seen as the “not trump” candidate which won him the centre.

Biden is just a place holder. With Trump out of the way …. and he’s going to face multiple criminal charges for everything from tax evasion to election tampering so he is out of the way …. the real battle is going to be the next 2 election cycles.

The only difference is none. Qtarts and Trumptarts will be posting like crazy that “indictments to lock her up” are around the corner which in turm will make the CIA/Pentagon’s job of profiling them easier.

Trust the plan bro, March 4th

Romney must have lost big with the trade war against China. However, no one should be surprised by the outcome. If Trump was convicted it would set a precedent to attack past Presidents.

SnowCatzor

Mittens has always been a pussy-cat. That little backstabbing neo-con bitch belongs in the Democratic party with the rest of them.

AM Hants

Must admit, I did enjoy watching Trump’s lawyers sorting out the Dems Impeachment Team.

Does anybody find it strange, that Biden has only just taken over, and yet, he has taken out the US energy industry, by cancelling the pipeline with Canada and how does that work out with his Ukraine interests, including Burisma. Remember, how Boy Hunter and the step-son of Kerry, were given very lucrative positions in Burisma, courtesy their relatives. So now Biden is allegedly President, will Burisma Energy benefit at the expense of the US energy industry?

Make America Last Again – Biden sure knows how.

Biden Energy Policies Benefit Foreign Companies Like Burisma… https://www.oann.com/biden-energy-policies-benefit-foreign-companies-like-burisma/

Jens Holm

In the energy sector Biden has done more things. I remember 3 more. He will reopen the frack oil. He will make it forbidden to waste so much gas to the air in fx Texas old fields and he will make focus and at least much more good will to Wind- and solar electrity.

Its a package but most of it is by the local states.

AM Hants

Yep, completely agree with you that Biden has done wonders in the energy section, only the public funded politician, did not do any of it for the people of the US. How much did he make from Ukraine and how much did his family make from the Burisma Deal? How much did the US make from the Biden Family and John Kerry family involvement in Burisma? How much did the `US make from Mitt Romney and Nanzi Pelosi’s investments in Ukraine and not forget their family connections to working in the Ukraine energy industry?

What is it with Ukraine and the Dems?

Ukraine, run like Russia back in the 90s. $oro$, Obama, Clintons, Bidens, McCain, Lynsey Graham, Victoria Nuland, Victor Punchuk, who was the President who is Victor Punchuk’s father-in-law and was allegedly involved in setting up Burisma Holdings? Poroshenko,, Saakashvili, Crowd Strike, Ukraine National Socialist Party, UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office – Integrity Initiative (Bill Browder)/Statecraft’77th Squadron Division. Google, Facebook, Amazon and I could go on, but, have you noticed how they all link in, but, who is pulling the control strings?

So many questions and so few answers.

Kenny Jones ™

I must admit, maybe Trump was slightly less worse than Biden is now

AM Hants

I think he is good, with regards domestic policies, but, a nightmare on the world stage. However, with the latter, is it all part of the script, owing to the fact he is the only President of the US, for many decades not to start a war? So, I think I prefer Trump to Biden, Clinton, Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush and jury out on Reagan. There again, guess Reagan and Trump might be on level pegging, in my view.

At the end of the day, my ‘political respect vote’ goes to President Putin. Wish many world leaders and their teams had his principles.

Kenny Jones ™

Exactly, Trump is good for the US, bad in foreign policy, but still better than Biden who will probably start WW3

AM Hants

Do believe Biden wants that more than anything. Not realising how it will affect him and his family.

AM Hants

Seriously love this rebuttal to the media, courtesy of Trump’s Defence Lawyer. What he says, is so true and we do need a media, that reports on facts, left and right, with integrity. How many of us are sick and tired of the lies and bias, of both sides, that comes out of the media? The Lawyer, is so deadpan, but, can seriously cut to the chase and deliver a line.

Trump is worse than Biden

Kenny Jones ™

Biden is a globalist, worse than a globalist doesn’t exist in this world

Jens Holm

Something is wrong over there.

They can elect a Trump and they didnt remove him before time.

I hope for changes.

Raptar Driver

Worry about your own shitty country!

BMWA1

I can only hope that this news does not throw Tommy and Genghis Gobi into the depths of dismay and sheer terror at the prospect of further Trump-hitler tyrant -dictator seditions and exhortations of domestic terrorists

JIMI JAMES

2-0,yawn))) They’re gonna do something about them do’minion idiot boxes or do they prefer to remain idiots?

Raptar Driver

It would seem that the only purpose for this was to devalue our glorious leaders in the eyes the American public. So now that means they are less than zero. It is time for a leaderless society using direct democracy!

verner

had he not been president at the time, he could have been brought before a regular court and wow, would they have found him guilty. judges with a book of law before the eyes would not have acquitted him. the sole reason why he was not found guilty is that the odious republicans preferred to find him not guilty, which he was, to avoid a negative political fall out. guilty = bad for republicans future prospects.
