Two Russian service military servicemen have been killed as a result of the ISIS mortar shelling in the Syrian province of Deir Ezzor, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday.
“The motor convoy came under mortar shelling by Islamic State [ISIS] terrorists in the province of Deir ez-Zor. As a result of shelling, one serviceman was killed and another one was badly wounded,” the ministry said. “The wounded serviceman was promptly taken to hospital but died of deadly wounds, despite efforts taken by medics.”
The ministry added that the servicemen were escorting the motor convoy of the Russian center for reconciliation. No info when the incident took place was provided.
Local sources from Deir Ezzor province report aboout the increased Russian military involvement in the ongoing anti-ISIS operation on the ground.
Russian Special Operations Forces troops actively participate in battles against ISIS as forward air controllers, ATGM operators and military advisers.
For those following my comments: I correctly predicted all these happening now when I quoted my ‘information source’ as saying that within the next 7 days, watch out for big news on several fronts. Now SAA is only about 1800m from the 137th brigade and we still have 3 days to go. That post was around the end of August. I also said that according to the same source, that the news about Russian deaths shouldn’t come as a surprise since the rapid achievements on on fronts now is as a result of increased Russian direct involvement in the front lines. Russian forward intelligence gathering soldiers are known for their fearless front line poking for enemy positions (unlike the US soldiers that sit backsides). So, of course there will be some casualties plus more risks of deaths through the reconciliation process that can lead to direct contact with enemy sides. Watch out for more ‘pockets’ in Deir Ezzor.
They were part of the Russian Reconciliation unit , which was hit by possibly embeds in ISIS to disrupt the motorcade. These men were protecting the crucial peace negotiators , the acts by ISIS and it’s backers will only make them more resolved and create a strength in unity , this would be a lose proposition for anyone attacking it won’t be surprised if the US makes a face saving call and condemn the action.
