Some 20 terrorists of the Islamic State (IS) group were killed, while some others were wounded by Iraqi police troops during a failed offensive, launched by militants near the Tal Afar airport, located in western Nineveh. According to reports, there were four terrorists with suicide belts among the killed militants.

On Wednesday, it was reported that 26 IS terrorists were killed by the Iraqi security forces in various areas of Mosul, as well as several drones of the terrorist group were shot down.

“The security forces shot down three ISIS-guided drones that were heading to bomb civilians in the districts of al-Zohour, al-Masaref, al-Seddiq and al-Sukkar North of Mosul,” the Bas News information website quoted the words of Col. Adel al-Jubouri from the Iraqi Joint Operations Command.

These districts of Mosul were recaptured by the government forces during their operations between mid October and January 24th. After this terrorists were forced to retreat from the eastern part of the city.

Al-Jubouri also noted that five IS terrorists were killed by the Iraqi forces, while militants were trying to sneak into Rashidya neighborhood, located in the north of Mosul.

At the same time, the Defense Ministry’s media cell reported that 21 other terrorists lost their lives in an airstrike, carried out in Umm al-Zanabir, located to the south of the western strategic city of Tal Afar. According to the report, three military vehicles of the terrorist group were also destroyed during the aerial raid.
