21 al-Shabab terrorists were killed by Kenyan army in Somalia

Today, the Kenyan military spokesman David Obonyo has said that the Kenyan Army has killed at least 21 members of the Somalia-based al-Shabab terrorists during a firefight in the neighboring country.

He also said that two Kenyan soldiers who were operating under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) were also killed and five others injured during the gunfight with the terrorists in the city of Afmadow in southern Somalia on Saturday afternoon.

It was also reported last week that 19 al-Shabab terrorists were killed by the Kenyan army after foiling their attack on a military camp in Afmadow.

Since 2006, Somalia has been the scene of deadly fighting between government forces and al-Shabab elements. Kenya sent over 3000 soldiers into Somalia in late 2011 after al-Shabab terrorists carried out several attacks inside Nairobi. Although, al-Shabab has vowed to continue the cross-border raids until Kenya pulls out troops from Somalia.

However, Somali government troops with the help of AMISOM (troops from Ethiopia, Uganda, Burundi, Djibouti, Sierra Leone, and Kenya) have been able to liberate several places of Somalia and driving terrorism out of Mogadishu since 2011.
