21 rocket launchers confiscated on Poland-Ukraine border

Original at kresy.pl and prawy.pl; translated from Polish by J.Hawk

Ukrainian border guards discovered 21 RPG-26 anti-tank rocket launchers in the baggage compartment of a bus servicing the Kiev-Wroclaw route at the Krakowiec-Korczowa border crossing. The weapons were found with the help of a specially trained dog. MVD and SBU investigators were summoned to the scene.

The bus driver claimed he received the baggage along the way, but did not know its contents. It was also not clear who was the intended recipient of the package, or whether there were additional attempts of this kind.

There have been numerous reports in Ukraine concerning the discovery of weapons being illegally transported from the Donbass, such as firearms, grenades, and grenade launchers. Including the relatively popular RPG-26. Some of them are sold on the black market. The trade involves many active soldiers from the volunteer battalions. It cannot be ruled out that some of these weapons have made it into Poland. Polish border guards recently discovered pistols deposited in the trash at the customs control point.

The direction of the RPG-26 shipment is particularly worrisome, because it was most likely intended for organized crime entities. There are lots of loose weapons in the war-torn country and their quantity is increasing due to shipments from brotherly [sic] countries. Curiously, these gifts often are not intended for the military but for private organizations and paramilitary formations. The situation in the country has long gotten out of control, although no politician is willing to admit it. It is unlikely that the Ukrainian government will be able to stem the flood of weapons into Poland, which has been increasing in recent months.
