Radical militants attacked an army military camp in western Niger, near the border with Mali. According to the country’s military, at least 25 soldiers and more than 60 militants were killed in the clash.
Media reports suggest that French and US partner military forces provided the army with an air support.
No group has calimed responsibility for the attack. However, it’s suspected that the local branch of ISIS was behind the attack. Al-Qaeda-linked groups also present in the area.
A month ago, at least 71 soldiers were killed in attacks by ISIS militants in the region.
