ATLANTIC OCEAN (June 2, 2016) Ships assigned to the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group (Ike CSG) conduct a replenishment-at-sea with the Military Sealift Command fleet replenishment oiler USNS Big Horn (T-AO 198). Ike CSG is deployed to the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of responsibility in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts. The Ike CSG includes USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) (Ike), Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 3, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 26 and ships USS San Jacinto (CG 56), USS Monterey (CG 61), USS Stout (DDG 55), USS Roosevelt (DDG 80), USS Nitze (DDG 94) and USS Mason (DDG 87). On June 13, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower entered the Mediterranean Sea, a U.S. Navy statement said. The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower leads a strike group of cruisers, destroyers and warplanes.
It’s the second U.S. aircraft carrier currently in the sea.
The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower will relieve the USS Harry S. Truman carrier strike group which will depart from the Mediterranean for the United States later in June. The Eisenhower carrier strike group is scheduled to continue air strikes against the ISIS terrorist group.
Since June 3, warplanes based on the USS Harry S. Truman have been participating in the US-led air campaign against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
