Three Turkish soldiers were killed by an IED explosion in the Syrian area of Afrin on March 22, Turkey’s Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said.
According to the prime minister, the soldiers were involved in the ongoing mine cleansing campaign in the area.
The official added that Turkish servicemembers and members of the Free Syrian Army continue removing IEDs and mines in the recently captured areas of Afrin.
The Turkish military and Turkish-backed militants captured the city of Afrin from the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) on March 18. Sicne then, they have been working to secure their gains in northwestern Syria.
Why not just load up Free Syrian Head-choppers with lots of Captagon, blindfold them and then turn them loose to roam about mined areas? Sort of a single-use portable ambulatory mine/IED detector. You’ll know every time one of them is successful by the ensuing blast. Snackbar!
