Construction of its gas pipeline from Russia to China is 99% finished, Russian energy giant Gazprom has announced. According to reports, the company is planning to start delivering gas to China via the Power of Siberia line as early as December 2019.
Gazprom’s Investor Day presentation in Singapore revealed that in 2019 the company is planning to invest about $2.24 billion into the project. The pipeline is set to deliver 38 billion cubic meters of Russian natural gas to China annually.
Gazprom and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) reached a 30-year agreement for gas supplies via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline in 2014. In September 2018, Gazprom reported that the Russian part of the pipeline, running from Yakutia gas production centers to China’s border, was almost complete. The construction of pipeline on Chinese territory is also almost completed.
Developing its vast eastern lands for habitation and commerce is one of the most important strategies in Russian history.
While I’m sure it’s mostly finished, I just find it odd calling a project you’re saying is more than 6 months and over 2 billion dollars from completion “99% complete”. That would suggest a total time of 50 years and a total cost of $200 billion, which both seem unlikely. Just nitpicking.
Good point, I imagine the pipeline is almost complete, put you still need compressors an connection infrastructure. testing would also be a major task on something this size.
99% of the infrastucture on Russia side is complete, need to wait for chinese infrastucture to be ready and for testing

This is how you build empires, not with guns and bombs like the Americans. If the US successfully forces Europe to buy expensive American gas, it will just make China even more competitive, and eventually all industry will move to Asia, whilst Europe returns to the horse and cart, and hunger, there’s a lot of energy in modern agriculture.
