On August 15, the Kurdish Pesherga continued military operations southeast of Mosul, liberating three villages and killing 35 ISIS militants. Pro-Kurdish sources said that Peshmerga units seized the villages of Hasudiya, Kanhashai Bchuk and Kanhasai Gawra and reached the Gwer bridge.
It was the second day of US-backed Kurdish operations in the area. On August 14, the Peshmerga already recaptured 9 villages in Nineveh province: Qarqasha, Qaradag, Setyh, Shanaf, Tal Hamid, Abzakh, al-Hamrah, Omar Mendan and Sayyud Hayyasi.
According to reports, some 2,500 Peshmerga fighters were involved in these attacks. Over 100 ISIS militants were killed in the calshes.
The strategic goal of Kurdish advances is to put additional pressore on the ISIS stronghold of Mosul and set a foothold for further advances on this strategic city.
