Late on October 28, warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) carried out 38 airstrikes on ISIS cells in Syria’s central region, according to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
The Russian airstrikes targeted hideouts of the terrorist group in the Amour mount in the eastern countryside of Homs as well as in the al-Bishri mount which lays along the administrative border between Raqqa and Deir Ezzor.
“Observatory activists have also monitored flights by Russian helicopters over the desert in order to secure the region and roads … amid ongoing flights by reconnaissance drones over the region,” the SOHR’s report reads.
The VKS operations coincided with routine combing operations by Syrian government forces in different part of the central region.
ISIS maintains a fairly large presence in central Syria. Earlier this month, the group’s cells launched a large-scale attack on the town of al-Resafa in the southern countryside of Raqqa. The attack was repelled by Syrian government forces and the VKS. At least 14 terrorists were killed.
The repeated operations by Syrian government forces and the VKS have been depleting ISIS cells. Nevertheless, the terrorist group’s insurgency in the central region will not likely end soon.
Condolences to the fallen wahabimossad and CIAisis operators. May they rest in pieces…
