I think Russian precision munitions have been the only major victory for the Russian military so far in this war. Ukraine, despite having very sophisticated anti-air defense systems, has been unable to stop Kalibrs, Onyxs, Kinzhals etc, from hitting their targets.

However, Russian tactics and overall strategy have so far been very poor. That Kiev “feint” was a complete and utter disaster.

Alex

It wasn’t a feint it was a distraction, they have blocked other units from reinforcing the main group in donbass and Mariupol, you can’t take a city of 3 million with 50 k troops and I don’t mention Kharkov and chguev

It was neither a feint, nor a distraction. They sent forces on six axis, right to the gates of the capital, with the goal of getting a capitulation and relatively bloodless stand-down of Ukrainian armed forces. It did not work, but was without question the way to proceed prior to having to spend the blood and treasure of a real war to get the same result. The Russians proved that they could drive to Kiev and sit outside with the Ukrotards absolutely powerless to repel them. Which means that they can do it again, at any time. The decision has been made in Washington that the Ukraine will be a wasteland in order to pursue the destruction of the Russian state as a rival to US dominance in Europe, and now that is what is happening.

Lesco Brandon

Yes I too believe it was a failed attempt at taking Kiev. Perhaps Russian intelligence thought Kiev would surrender without putting up a fight? I can’t see how they could have come up with this conclusion though. Perhaps it was one of those roll the dice kinda gambles, which if it pays off pays huge dividends. In this case it didn’t.

Clyde

It was not an attempt to take Kiev, and thus not a failed attempt. It was a psychological operation, and it did not work. It would have worked if a Ukrainian government had existed in Kiev that was in any way obligated to ensure the welfare of the Ukrainian people, but such a government did not exist, only a US puppet installed to weaponize the Ukraine against Russia. A tragedy for the people of the Ukraine.

Fabio

NDR7652

Thank You

Yuri

there was no attempt–

Eddie

That wasn’t their conclusion. For some reason, you’re assuming it was their conclusion. And yeah sure, it was exactly as you said, perhaps a roll the dice gamble. Because that’s what nuclear powers do 🙄

Mattie J

I can see how they thought that. Back in 2014, before the nazis was incorporated in the Ukranian army, some 75% of the ukrainian army laid down their weapons when they met Russian soldiers in Donbas.

So, the Russians thought that would happen again, thats why they came to Ukraine with only 200K troops to face 600K Ukranian troops. What them happened was that the 40K troops around Kiev managed to keep 100K Ukrainians in Chernigov and Kiev from being redeployed to help nazis in Mariupol

Here we are now, mere weeks away from total surrender of Ukraine as well as the extinction of Ukraine as a country as it will be swallowed up by Russia, Belarus, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania

Darko

I would agree with you. Strategy was ok, Ukrainian army had to take big part of army concentrated around Donbass to protect Kiev. Sure, 3 million people city can not be taken by army of 50 000. The point is Ukrainian army has now big problem how to deploy them back without catastrophic losses . There was also a possibility to overturn government in Kiev but it did not happen. Other way, tactic was very costly, fast deployment of big columns took many casualty Russian side. What I think they are interested in Herson, Lugansk, Donetsk to make land bridge to Crimea, but they will need to sign Peace agreement with Ukraine or keep fighting. Basically they need Ukrainian capitulation to legalize this situation. If this is goin to happen I have no idea, it can turn really bad for Russia as well

Lesco Brandon

So it happened in 2014 and we expect it to happen again now?! That’s madness. Whoever was the intelligence chief for this piece of intel should be shot.

What makes you think Ukraine is on the verge of surrender? I am seeing no signs of this whatsoever. All I see is a continuation of the stupidity of Russian tactics.

Darko

The tactic is not finest, it is about strategy, Ukrajine has no more fuel and nobody is working. Wery soon, you will have to feed 40 000 000 people in Ukrajine, together with other 5 million already fled to Europe, latest September will join another 100 000 000 hungry Africans. This is not a war agains Ukrajine at the first place

Last edited 2 years ago by Darko
Manu

Perfectly said. It was a worthy attempt at making it a free win. From what I heard, they also were “betrayed” by poor intelligence on which Ukrainian officials would collaborate. It’s fine though. I’m glad they’re winning this war with little civilian casualties. You don’t fight a brother nation the same way you fight against a mortal enemy.

salluste

I share your conclusion it was worth a try !

Ray Douglas

And the same with Odessa. 60,000 Ukrainian soldiers tied up doing nothing.

Omas Bioladen

Exactly. It would be the same saying the Russian Navy is a failure since it doesn’t dare to attack Odessa or failed to destroy it. Yes, in US terms, any living creature on a battlefield is a failure.

But it is exactly what you say, the army in Odessa is pinned down and cannot maneuver out of the city. Also moral will not get better over time and their positions, booby traps, mines and caches will one by one be transmitted to the Russian forces by spies making these reinfocemets less valuable and the dug in units less confident.

Overall the Russian campaign is a success out of the military textbook so far in my eyes. It took the German 2.5 Million soldier Wehrmacht 7 monts to pass the Ukraine. This however is only the first month and Ukraine is already behavin desperately.

Also the Russian strategy was taking into account the politcal factor of armsdeliveries from third parties to the Ukraine. But from now on there will be a coherent front line that will be fought mostly with heavy armour making all these guns and hand held grenades given to Ukriane almost obslete in the equation. That ist a reason why I do not believe Russia will take on Kiev again.

Russia it very confident to control Ukriane like it controls Syria in a hostile environment once the borders are established and the main units of Azov are liqudated. This is a war and it will come at a cost for Russia too even though the Russian losses as told by the Ukrainians are ridiculously exagerated. They price Russia pays will alsobe their moral foundation on which a Novorossia will be built.

Lesco Brandon

I agree you can’t take a city of 3 million with 50k troops. However there were smarter ways of “distracting” Kiev in order to pin their troops down. Russia could have kept troops within Belarussian borders and still achieved the pinning. The mere threat of having troops 40 miles from Kiev would have worked. There was no need to send so many troops, along with the airborne operation, only to have them picked off over a period of a month.

I don’t know what the actual number of losses is for Russia around Kiev. It would be interesting to find out. MSM claims thousands of Russian troops died and hundreds of vehicles destroyed.

Clyde

You Ukrotards claim these Russian losses, but like literally everything emanating from what is essentially a Ukrainian anus renlentlessly emitting propagand flatus, there is no reason for any rational person to accept them. The operations around Kiev were an aspect of a psychological operation conducted to get the Kiev Klown Kabal to relieve the Ukrainian military of the burden of getting killed on behalf of the US. The operation was not successful, and so those Ukrainians will now get killed on behalf of the US.

Lesco Brandon

Excuse me?! I’m not a ukrotard. I hate them fucking Nazis. I support Russia 100% but I am also realistic about what is happening on the ground.

arrow

The MSM claims that the United States of America is a democracy, that jet A (which does not produce enough btu’s to melt the massive steel beams) cause the twin towers to free fall, that masking will protect you from Covid, and that the mRNA injection is a vaccine, so I reckon their claims cannot be trusted to be valid… at all.

Yuri

Russian stats less than 2000 soldiers dead

Omas Bioladen

Let him believe his fantasies. Thes millenials grew up on egoshooters and should know what it means to pin down an enemy to let your team operate. But when they are in real live, theydo not understand whats going on nd believe any bit of retaded US and NATO propaganda.

Bigblaast

I would say it was an incredible deception on the part of the Russians; one for the history books and future battle strategists.

WillieBrennan

No, it was far from a “disaster”. It worked exactly as planned.

You do understand that Russia fielded somewhere around 200,000 troops against a 600,000 man Ukraine army, don’t you?

The thrust toward Kiev tied down a whole lot of Ukie weaponry and manpower for more than a month, as well as rendering them static and vulnerable to Russian airpower.

Gorgeous George

Far less, more like 60-80 thousand troops.

Lesco Brandon

At what cost though? Russia could have achieved the same thing by keeping its troops within Belarusian borders. 50k troops within a days march to Kiev would have kept Kiev forces pinned down. There was no need to actually march on Kiev. The airborne assault, while achieving its objective, was costly.

The maharaja

I dont think he understand what you are saying which is not only logical its argued by many. Clearly you could tie down the troops with out having to be over the border in Kiev. There was no need to have the massive losses. However that is only the case if it was to tie them down which was BS.

As clyde pointed out they were sent there to rattle the gates and see if it would cause Ukraine to submit. It did not. The whole idea of not allowing troops to move from Kiev to the east?

You could stop that by actually using your 1200 combat aircraft, maybe blow up one or two bridges or actually bomb the rails if you wanted to stop troop movement? Also what better way to destroy an army then when its on the move?

Either way it did not win the war for Russia or Ukraine. The war continues.

Omas Bioladen

Fake. Just sitting in your basement doesn’t impress anyone. You need to attack in order to be believable and a 6th front could have been opened at any time.

Vlad the Impaler

You fail to take into account Chernobyl and Zaporozhia nuclear plants. These are objectives which HAD to be secured, in case Ukraine decided to use them to build quick and cheap dirty bombs.

Clyde

How many posts do you suppose that you will make with the same false assertion that the Kiev operation was used to pin down the Ukrainians? It was part of a comprehensive operation to get the Ukrotards to lay down arms and pursue negotiations. As the role of the Kiev regime is to burn up the Ukrainian people as a function of the US war against Russia, no such development occurred. The US is bound to fight Russia to the last Ukrotard.

Lesco Brandon

When you include the diplomatic factor it makes more sense. However, it was STILL a failure:

1) Kiev didn’t crumble 2) Negotiations thus far have failed 3) Russian losses were high (not as high as what MSM makes it out to be but still substantial) 4) Russia still doesn’t have control of the east. The much vaunted cauldrons that Scott Ritter and Doug McGregor spoke about have not materialized. Kharkov remains uncaptured 5) Mariupol hasn’t fallen despite assurances that it is only a matter of time for the last 4 weeks

Yuri

halfwit analysis…kiev irrelevant –the longer negotiations continue the more kinzhals obliterate ukrops and infrastructure Russian losses 2000 troops or less the east is irrelevant Mariupol has fallen–nazi garrisons encircled—nazis desperate trying to flee.. have you always been this stupid?

Lesco Brandon

High tech weapons cost money and while pinpoint strikes make for excellent propaganda, they’re not doing enough damage to make a difference

Yuri

no sacrifice no gain

Leviathan

nope. The feint has to be credible or else it is seen as a feint and does not work.

The Ukraine thrusts also captivated the Western Media, so this was feint for both Ukraine military and Western Media.

In the meantime 4 towns were captured in the south (Kherson, etc), control taken over the blocked Crimea water canal, the land bridge to Crimea made and Mariupol surrounded,. All barely noticed in Western Media.

Then it was a silly plan.

Ray Douglas

Military strategy is not your strong point.

Lesco Brandon

It doesn’t appear to be Russia’s either

cj2317

disagree, the Russians goal was to destroy the military’s of Ukraine infrastructure, assets and capability’s which are clearly doing not go in and be occupier of citys and land, the massive Colum recently near Kiev was a prefect example that column froze any units going to try and support units fighting in the east,

Katsapower

But why aren’t they keeping Kiev surounded with troops while taking all Donbass? Do they want to let Ukrainians move from Kiev to Donbass?

Dick Von D'Astard

Without fuel or food how do they get there without being carpet bombed? They are stuck and about as much use as a split condom.

Yuri

ukrops frozen paralyzed traumatized—duh

The maharaja

Agree, I will say that the attacks around the capital seemed to be going in Russia’s favor for quite some time. Yes they had losses but they gained ground daily, some back and forth. However when they announced a retreat from the north on TV then actually carried it out? That is when I would say it went bad. “Disaster” a good choice of word from what I saw. Had this retreat been handled better Russia would have take losses yes but had it been done in a way that they did not take that drubbing… the perspective on their efforts would be far more positive.

I think it is going to be up hill battle for Russia, no idea where they set the finish line for themselves but on numbers alone, taking 200k troops to go after 400k ….. Even with DPR/LPR maybe 240k? UAF is probably closer to 600K and growing even with losses. Guess time will tell. There is a lot that makes little sense and its hard with so much propaganda to get a good picture.

Afterthought

One side is conducting a special operation. The other side is fighting a war. Guess who will win?

Once Russia decides to fight a war, they will win:

Destroy all infrastructure of Ukraine: electricity, government, dams, bridges, rail, airports, fuel, food, sanitation, water.

At least 1 million men + the existing force to PERMANENTLY add land to Russia, no more vague diplomatic objectives. Pure CONQUEST.

Or lose.

Clyde

Absolutely false. The failed Ukrainian CIA project has to be dismantled. Krusty the Klown of Kiev can be left in place to manage the Mad Max wasteland that remains once the Russians roll up the 60 000-odd Ukrotards in the south and finish demolishing the infrastructure of the Ukrotard military machine. No occupation, no massive land annexation outside of the regions that rejected the CIA coup in 2014.

Lesco Brandon

Agreed. Russia MUST take the gloves off. Anything that assists the Nazi military becomes a genuine military target. Internet, phone services, water dams, electricity, ANYTHING. Blow it all up!

Yuri

Glibby Ballsucker

RiNS

Dank fur kopf

If Russia didn’t pin all major groupings of forces, Ukraine would have been free to move what is close to 600,000 combined forces around the country to support various fronts. Pinning prevented Ukraine from capitalizing on massive numerical superiority. To use a few thousands to pin tens of thousands, whether you understand it or not, was military genius.

Ukrainian forces should have remained pinned and divided in my opinion, and new forces injected by Russia in order to carry out other objectives. Russia seems to have set a very low ceiling on the entire operational numbers, and are therefore repositioning troops depending on the objectives. This is probably to keep most of their forces available should NATO start acting crazy. Russia went into Ukraine with less than 60,000 total, most of the credible high level analysis suggests. That’s a 1 to 10 ratio when attacking normally has 3 to 1. 30x less than conventional wisdom suggests.

Ukraine will likely start to funnel troops to the East now, but Russia has absolute air superiority, and Ukraine’s losses in transit will be enormous (without a doubt most). That said, they’ll still get some through. Whether or not these forces will be a factor, given the massive concentration of forces Russia is mobilizing. Likely Russian forces will break through Ukrainian’s defenses with the kind of fire power that has not been witnessed since WW2, and will therefore move very quickly. Ukrainian forces will be under the full-spectrum of modern weapons and in huge quantities. Their losses will be approaching 100%, with almost no surrenders.

Plan A failed quickly (not enough men), then they sat there paralyzed until scrapping Plan A one month later.

Plan B requires at least 300,000 men, maybe 400,000. Still not enough men.

Why can Ukrainians still watch Netflix and play Elden Ring?

hash

Clyde

Ukrainians can indulge their proclivity to emulate brain-addled Americans because the Russiand chose not to accomplish their goals by levelling Ukrotard cities. Plan A didn’t require more men, it required a government in Kiev that operated in the interests of the Ukrainian people instead of the US empire. Oh well. Time for 60 000 Ukrainian servicemen to get turned into taco meat.

Lesco Brandon

Clyde I hope you’re right about the crushing of the 60k Nazis in the east. However as of yet I am not seeing any significant advancements on the battlefront.

B A

Hopefully they are mapping those entrenchments and coming up with targets and a plan. I think the weather has been almost always overcast. So no high altitude recon. Low flying drones really would be the best way to map the battlefield. My impression is they could use a lot more equipment.

Lesco Brandon

There is nothing wrong with a plan failing. It is fine for us to analyze the failure. For Russia it means trying to figure out what went wrong, cup with another plan and then implement that plan. All of this needs to be done QUICKLY. The last thing Russia wants is any trapped Nazis to breakout and meet up with the Ukrainians coming in from the West (now that Kiev is no longer encircled)

NDR7652

The problem here is that the Feint was ill conceived hence a FAILURE

Because it was based on a FLAWED concept of Pan -Slavism that the Ukrainian Army wouldn’t fight because brother Russians were coming to liberate them.

Which is a bad “strategy” because you cannot assume that the enemy WON’T FIGHT

I think Clyde best answere this. Search his post; here is an excerpt: “It was neither a feint, nor a distraction. They sent forces on six axis, right to the gates of the capital, with the goal of getting a capitulation and relatively bloodless stand-down of Ukrainian armed forces. It did not work, but was without question the way to proceed prior to having to spend the blood and treasure of a real war to get the same result.”

In my opinion this is the case. And even in the case of not realizing the best case outcome, this axis still served as a feint (even though that wasn’t the primary reason for this offensive), as well as some purpose of leverage in negotiations.

Dick Von D'Astard

Whenever you played those old Japanese RPG games the player and the adversary always had a Hit Point (HP) gauge and you could always tell how far off you were from defeating the opponent as the green bar turned to red. I guess with regards goal ‘Demilitarization’ the Ukrainian military infrastructure and assets HP bar is now close to single digit percentages and showing the red.
