On April 4, Azerbaijan has set conditions for ceasefire in the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region, saying that Armenia must withdraw from the region. In turn, Armenia has said it would recognize the region’s independence if the situation on the ground worsens. Clashes have been going in the region since April 2.

While the international community makes attempts to restore the peace in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan fuels it by supporting the side of the conflict, Azerbaijan. On April 4, Erdogan stated that the disputed region will ‘inevitably’ return to Azerbaijan.

Russian sappers have demined four hectares in the historical part of Syria’s ancient city of Palmyra, clearing a total of 108 explosive devices, the Russian Defense Ministry reported Monday.

Amid ongoing tensions in the South China Sea, the US and the Philippines began their annual war games on Monday, kicking off 11 days of military exercises meant as a show of force to China. The annual Balikatan exercises will involve 55 US aircraft operating alongside Manila fighter jets.
