5 Turkish servicemen have been killed during a military operation against alleged Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in Turkey’s Mardin Province.
1 officer and 1 policeman were killed and 3 soldiers were injured after a bomb exploded in the Kurdish-populated town of Nusaybin.
Separately, 1 soldier and 2 special forces fighters were killed in a firefight with PKK militants.
According to the Turkish officials, 23 PKK militants were killed in the area.
Recently, heavy clashes errupted between the Turkish military and local Kurdish militias (Ankara calls them PKK) in the town of Nusaybin . The Turkish military uses battle tanks and artillery in the area.
