Six armed militants have been killed, while two others managed to escape, during an attempt of an armed group to break through to the territory of a military base of the Russian Federal National Guard in the Chechen republic.
A group of armed men attempted to break through to the territory of a military base of the Russian Federal National Guard (Rosgvardia) in the village of Naurskaya in the Chechen republic, the TASS news agency reported on Friday, citing a source in law enforcement agencies. As a result, six of the eight militants were killed, while two attackers managed to escape.
On Friday, at 2:30 Moscow time, a group of armed men tried to penetrate into the territory of one of the military towns of the Rosgvardia in the conditions of a strong fog. “During an attempt to enter the territory of the military town, the armed gang was discovered by a military squad, which entered into battle with it. Six assailants were killed,” the Federal National Guard reported.
The Russian National Anti-terrorism Committee (NAC) reported that the attackers had firearms and ammunition. Simulants of suicide belts were found on the bodies of two of them.
As a result of the attack, six servicemen of the Federal National Guard Troops Service of the Russian Federation were killed.
“During the clash, six servicemen were killed, there are wounded [soldiers],” a representative of the department told the news agency.
According to a news agency source in law enforcement agencies of the North Caucasian Federal District, three servicemen were injured, their condition is assessed as “moderately severe.”
“As a result of decisive actions of the military personnel, the penetration of the armed gang nto the [military] town did not happen,” the department stressed.
Currently, the area of the clashes is blocked. Special events are conducted under the guidance of the commander of the joint group of troops. An operational investigation team and bomb-disposal experts of the Federal Security Service (FSB) are operating at the site of the incident. The situation is being specified.
“An operational group of the Central Staff of the National Guard troops went to the Chechen republic to clarify all the circumstances of the incident,” the department said.
