At least 70 pro-government fighters and ISIS terrorists have been killed in clashes in central Syria since the beginning of 2021, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on January 10.
“The SOHR has documented, since the beginning of the current year 2021, the killing of 44 members and officers of the regime forces and the militias loyal to them, as a result of ambushes, bombings and attacks by ISIS operatives in the Syrian Badia,” the SOHR said in a report. “The organization [ISIS] lost at least 25 of its members due to Russian airstrikes and clashes.”
Recently, ISIS cells in the central region stepped up their attacks. Earlier this week, the terrorists launched a large attack on government forces in the eastern countryside of Hama.
In the course of the attack, the terrorists captured a number of positions from government forces near the towns of al-Shakusiyah and Rahjan.
According to the SOHR, 15 Syrian soldiers and officers went missing during the attack, which claimed the lives of 19 pro-government fighters and 12 terrorists.
Heavy clashes are still ongoing in eastern Hama as government forces have been working to secure the area. Over the last 24 hours, 40 Syrian and Russian airstrikes hit gatherings and equipment of ISIS in the region.
In a separate development, ISIS cells destroyed a pickup of the al-Quds Brigade, a Palestinian pro-government group, in the eastern Homs countryside with an improvised explosive device.
Hundreds of ISIS terrorists hide in the Homs desert in the heart of the central region. The terrorists reportedly buy logistic and military supplies from US-backed fighters based in the southeastern area of al-Tanf.
The situation in the central region will not improve without decisive measures from government forces and their allies.
Sadly I think the situation in Syria won’t improve in the next few years. With Idlib being a stalemate and the increasing threat of ISIS due to Turkey and the US hundrets of soldiers will get killed in the next few years, if not more. Idlib needs to be liberated asap, but it won’t happen though. Putin is a traitor. He lets SAA soldiers dying at the Idlib front on a regular basis, only to appease Erdodog. The end of 2016, 2017 and 2018 were great years for Syria where large parts of the country were liberated, but as it looks now no more territory will be liberated. There are always people who say that Idlib is gonna be liberated soon only to make some hope, but we all know this is not gonna happen.
I may be wrong, but I think Putin and Assad agreed on freezing the “Idlib issue” until Erdogan is gone. Because they know he has the potential to start a war against Assad and believe me he really has. When Erdogan is gone, they will try to make deal with the new government or start an offensive while we are occupied with internal issues (transition of the government). I think it will be the first option because the newly elected government will have to deal with the refugee problem and there is no other option other than talking with Assad.
About the election, I am constantly checking different polls in here and I can say he will be gone this time. He really messed up the economy and his supporters are literally starving. I wish the best for our countries. Cheers.
Great analysis. I just hope he won’t manipulate the next elections again and continues his radical policy. Every new Turkish president would be better than Erdo.
He will try. That’s inevitable and will happen. Two points are important, the size of difference of votes (with other candidate) and how much of the manipulation can be prevented.
“The situation in the central region will not improve without decisive measures from government forces and their allies”.
Why is SF all of a sudden saying this over and over again in so many of their articles, surely they know the Russians, Syrians, and Iranians are doing everything possible to stop Isis, or do they, maybe they know something we don’t. The real reason they’re saying it over and over again is because the thick heads still aren’t getting the message, the last few generation have lost all ability to read between the lines and have no conception that the real story can be a story within another story, personally I blame the LGBTQI movement for that, they brainwashed all the little kids while they were listening to music and watching TV, now that ability is lost in most people.
“”The situation in the central region will not improve without decisive measures from government forces and their allies”.
Or this beauty,
“ISIS continues to take advantage of the Syrian crisis to rebuild its influence in the country. The group is stepping up its activities in areas held by more than one side, like Deir Ezzor, and where those sharing power are not coordinating as they should, like in Daraa.”
I read you loud and clear SF.
