On March 17th, at least 80 Houthis were killed and dozens were injured in clashes with the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, according to a statement from the Yemen army.
60 Houthi fighters were killed in clashes in Qaniyah region in Al Bayda province.
Another 20 were killed in Saudi Arabian airstrikes in the district of Survah of Marib province. Houthi officials said the Saudi-led coalition carried out at least 15 airstrikes against their fighters.
A Houthi drone was shot down in Al-Hudaydah province by Yemeni government forces, according to the press office of Amalika Brigade.
Other reports provide smaller numbers, saying that at least 38 fighters from the Saudi-led coalition and the Houthis have died combined.
The officials and tribal leaders said the Houthis advanced deep into the district before government forces pushed them back and captured at least 30 Houthi fighters.
This reported success by the Saudi-led coalition follows a big victory for the Houthis, who captured the strategic northern city of Hazm, the capital of Jawf province, which borders Marib.
The rebels earlier this year also seized a key supply line linking Marib and Jawf provinces, located along the border with Saudi Arabia. They also took control of the strategic district of Nehm, some 60 kilometers northeast of the Yemeni capital Sana’a, under control of the Houthis.
The Houthis even showcased their gains in Hazm, releasing a variety of photographs from the captured city.
The Saudi-led coalition continues heavy airstrike activity, despite the upper hand in the clashes on the ground. However, one of the outlets perpetuating the reports of 80 killed Houthi fighters is Anadolu Agency, which could mean that Saudi Arabia is getting a hand in propaganda spreading by Turkey, which is, at this point, an expert in making claims backed up by no evidence at all.
The Saudi-led coalition’s Sudanese backbone is also withdrawing from the fight, and this could spell even worse times for the Kingdom in the near future.
