About 8,000 Militants Moved To Afghanistan From Syria – Russia’s FSB

On April 5, at a meeting of the Council of the SCO Anti-Terrorist Structure, the first deputy director of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) Sergei Smirnov stated that about 8,000 militants from Syria moved to northern Afghanistan.

“One of today’s decisions concerned this issue. We took note of Tajikistan’s warning of the threat coming from the territory of Afghanistan for the SCO countries which border on Afghanistan, directly or indirectly,” Smirnov said.

According to Smirnov the successful missions in Syria have led to the current situation, where militants, including ISIS ones crossed Iran and Turkey into Afghanistan to reach its northern regions.

The menace is that many citizens are from post-Soviet territory: Uzbekistan, Tadjikistan, Turkmenistan, which share border with Afghanistan.

“The solution concerns the output of common measures made by qualified government authorities to minimalize this menace”, Smirnov noted. “We have to work out an effective exchange between our governments to control the communication of military persons”.

The growing number of foreign militants in Afghanistan will likely contribute to the further deterioration of the security situation in the war-torn country.

American imported jihadi violence can only strengthen opposition to its presence, if true.

Nope. ISIS is used as a tool to fight the Taliban that are the only real enemy of the US Army in Afghanistan.

“…8,000 moved…?” How about 8,000 /*were* moved/. Most certainly by military transport aircraft. And we know whose transports they are. 8,000 armed “militants” do not just “move” across two hostile states at war against them to “suddenly” turn up in Northern Afghanistan.

Soviet Block fighters make their way across Iraq and Iran to reach Afghanistan and somehow the US is to blame? These mercenaries are under the control of Russia, Hezbollah and Iran. If US allied fighters are driving across Iran then the Persians are done.

Not the first place I’ve heard such concerns, it extends to the whole Arab world, really This doesn’t say who the Russians think these guys are affiliated with, but in any case it means that the US garrison there will stay for the fireseeable future in order to ensure Afghanistan doesn’t go full Yemen.
