57 people were killed and 37 others were wounded in the recent Israeli strikes on the eastern Syrian governorate of Deir Ezzor, the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on January 13.
The strikes, which took place in the early morning, targeted a number of military positions between Deir Ezzor city and the town of al-Bukamal in the governorate’s southern countryside.
According to the SOHR, the casualties include 14 Syrian service members as well as 43 foreign fighters, mostly Iraqi and Afghan nationals, from armed groups loyal to Iran.
The numbers provided by the SOHR may be inaccurate. The monitoring group tends to exaggerate the losses of Syrian government forces. Pro-government sources have so far reported the death of five service members only.
In a related development, a number of media sources alleged that Saleh Abdul Amir Nassif, also known as Abu Yatem al-Katrani – the commander of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) 4th Brigade, was killed in the Israeli strikes on Deir Ezzor. The PMU confirmed al-Katrani’s death in an official statement, but did not clarify where or when the commander was killed.
The Israeli strikes on Deir Ezzor were the heaviest since the beginning of 2021, and among the largest aerial attacks on pro-government forces in eastern Syria since the outbreak of the war.
The repeated Israel strikes on Syria are meant to pressure Damascus and force Iranian troops and their allies out of the war-torn country. This will not likely happen anytime soon.

Pro Government sources only have access to information concerning their own soldiers fatalities, they’d be unaware of the number of losses to the Iranians and their militias, so they couldn’t confirm the total number of deaths and injuries even if they wanted to. So I’m assuming 5 soldiers from the SAA were killed and all the rest belonged to Iranians and their militia forces, but I suspect the 5 SAA soldiers that were also killed probably belonged to the 4th division of the SAA, which would mean all the casualties were pro Iranian fighters. But best of all no reports of civilian casualties, that’s always the best news for me. And what about this statement from SF, they seem to copy and paste this at the end of every article concerning Israeli airstrikes against Iran,

This is a glass half full or glass half empty type of statement, what does it really mean, well depending on what you want to happen it could mean 2 different things. Key words are “not likely” and “soon”, so using that context it could mean exactly what it implies, it will happen but most likely not anytime soon. So if you read the statement correctly it actually acknowledges the Israelis will eventually force the Iranians out of Syria, but the writer also adds they don’t believe it will happen any time soon, but likely doesn’t mean won’t, so it’s left open that it might happen before it’s even expected. The trolls will say I’m just playing with words but they seem to forget the writer of the article is also playing with words [he’s a journo], so if read correctly the statement actually does tell us the Iranians will be forced out of Syria, but adds it’s probably going to take a while, but not necessarily. This statement was made just one day before the Israeli bombardment, coincidence or timely departure, maybe the Russians moved out because they had prior knowledge of the attacks. The Iranians knew it was coming because they’ve been on high alert for 2 weeks [and brought in heaps of reinforcements to protect themselves], so they were expecting this, but who told them to expect it, mmm. So what really happened, did the Israelis wait for the Russians to leave first before they started the bombardment, or did the Russians get out first because they had prior knowledge, I suspect prior knowledge was the reason the Russians left, and also the reason the Iranians were prepared for the attack. And what about Turkey, no one’s mentioning Turkey, do you all believe the Israeli drones flew in via Jordan and Iraq, I’m pretty sure they didn’t, they probably flew through Turkey to get here, the Iraqis would never sanction an Israeli fly through. I’m not surprised by the Iranian supporters [not all of them] ignorance of the real situation in Deir ez Zor, Quneitra, Darra, and As Suwayda, but the Russian supporters on this forum are really starting to perplex me, does Russia really have to write a message and hand deliver it to you personally before you understand what’s really going on, or maybe paint you a pretty picture perhaps, because it’s not like they haven’t been telling you the truth, you’ve just been missing it, and ignoring my helpful translations that should’ve helped you understand the hidden messages in most of SF’s most recent articles.

But that all ended when the Iranians attacked Aleppo, now the Turks no longer buy any gas from Iran [they buy US LPG instead], and they’ve stopped any and all trade between their neighbors Azerbaijan and Georgia with Iran, so you’re very lucky, the campaign to take back Aleppo saved your asses, otherwise you wouldn’t just be facing the Iranians, you’d have the Brotherhood, Turkey, and Iran all allied against you by now, nightmare scenario.
