Advanced Low-Altitude Radars Spotted In Hmeimim Airbase

Support SouthFront

At least two 48Ya6-K1 Podlet K1 low-altitude radars are currently deployed at the Hmeimim airbase on the Syrian coast, according to a photo appeared in Russian social media on September 24.

Developed by Russia’s defense giant Almaz-Antey, Podlet K1 is a 3D, S-Band, low-altitude radar with a range of 200-300 km depending on the operation mode. The radar uses a Passive Electronically Steered Array (PESA) antenna.

The Podlet K1 was designed to detect hostile targets flying at low-altitude, provide early warning and support Russian advanced air-defense systems, such as the S-400.

The radars were likely deployed at the Hmeimim airbase to help detecting armed drones, which have been attacking the base for more than a year now. Terrorist groups, including al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, are believed to be behind these attacks.

Since early 2018, Russian air-defense and radar systems deployed in Hmeimim have foiled all the attacks on the base without sustaining any losses.

fine tuning the system based on experience, it works

d'Artagnan

After the epic failure of US patriots, the sheer operational simplicity, low cost and excellent performance of Russian weapons systems is on global display. The the revitalized armed forces of the Russian Federation have gained invaluable lessons from fighting US sponsored terrorists in Syria and have tweaked their already very capable systems to perfection.

Saudi Arabia should have bought Russian air defense systems. But then again the Empire does not like it when its vassals also buy Russian gear, as witnessed by Turkey. And of course the purchase of American gear only serves to also buy protection by the US military. And Russia does not offer its sons and daughters up as a glorified protection racket. Nor can Russia be made dependent on Saudi Arabia by virtue of SA’s usage of the petro dollar.

Does anyone know how many drone attacks the Russians have fended off in Latakia? Seems like quite a few since 2017.

d'Artagnan

Russia’s military has thwarted the fourth known attack on its airbase in Syria this week, All drones were supplied by Turkey and US and all were destroyed numbering over two dozen.

Human kind is doomed

I don’t know what impresses me the most, is it a ability to see and shoot down a piece of flying plywood or ability to shoot down a GRAD missile? I am really impressed!!!

Ray " Uncle Sam"

russia is preparing for a big swam attack by us puppets isis or other terrorist groups, because of the bad PR in Saudi Arabia!

FlorianGeyer

You make a valid point ,Ray.

Also, if a US coalition AWAC is controlling the drones, shoot that out of the sky as well.

Jacob Wohl's Nose

they also need some NEBO M and NEBO SVU radars for the S400, especially since the zionist airforce operates F-35 and US operates F-22

Human kind is doomed

There is one of those radars already in Hmeimim, i think it’s NEBO M but i am not sure!

Jacob Wohl's Nose

The best S-400 radars for targeting stealth is Gamma-DE and Protivnik, but those are probably not used in Syria since they are reserved for the Russian Homeland and more strategically important sites. But it doesn’t matter because Big Bird 91n6e and NEBO are just fine for Hmeimim Syria and get the job done against stealth

Human kind is doomed

I am no expert, far from it but if i understood this right, you need two different radars for low observable objects:

exactly! they use both Nebo-M and Nebo-SVU one of them is VHF radio wave range while other is UHF. so if Russia has Nebo-M they most likely have the other one to

Hist 83

Can they detect low level stealth jets?
