On October 10, chief of the Afghan National Police (ANP) in the district of Nad Ali, Abdul Basir, told the TOLO TV that Afghan Air Force (AAF) warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes on Taliban gatherings and positions across the district. As a result, 27 insurgents were killed and 13 others were injured.
According to Basir, the airstrikes were carried out in response to an attack by the Taliban on local security forces in Nad Ali, which is located in the southern province of Helmand.
Few hours later, the Taliban news agency Voice of Jihad reported that 12 civilians were killed and 4 others were injured in the AAF airstrikes on Nad Ali. The Afghan group also acknowledged that the airstrikes were conducted after an attack by its fighters on an armored vehicle of government forces in the district.
Four women and children were killed in the central province of Kandahar last week, when NATO and AAF warplanes attacked a wedding convoy. Back then, Afghan officials acknowledged the incident and accused Taliban fighters of hiding among civilians.
