Afghan Military Helicopter Crashes Killing 25 People On Board

On October 31, an Afghan army helicopter crashed in the western Farah province. 25 people on board died in the incident, according to Mohammad Naser Mehri, spokesman for the Farah governor.

Mehri stated that the incident took place shotly after the helicopter took off from the mountainous Anar Dara district heading toward the nearby Herat province.

The deputy corps commander of the western zone Gen. Naimudullah Khalil, and two members of the Farah provincial council, including its chairman, Farid Bakhtawar, were among the killed.

The Taliban’s news agency Voice of Jihad reported that the military helicopter was shot down by Taliban members. The news agency added that this was a part of the ongoing series of military operations by the Taliban against US-backed forces.
