On January 4, a suicide bomber blew himself up near a crowd of civilian protestors in the Banaee area in the Afghan capital, Kabul, according to the Afghan Tolo TV. The Ministry of Public Health and Kabul Police confirmed that fifteen policemen and civilians were killed and twenty other people were injured in the attack.
Nasrat Rahimi spokesman for the deputy of the Afghan Interor Ministry said that the suicide bomber targeted a gathering of Afghan police tasked with securing the nearby protest, according to France Press Agency (AFP).
“A suicide attacker has detonated himself … close to a number of police who were trying to provide security for an ongoing protest,” Rahimi told AFP.
Few hours after the attack, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq claimed that ISIS was behind it. Amaq also revealed the name of the suicide bomber – “Ibarhim al-Bajuri” and claimed that over 80 Afhgan policemen and intelligence officers were killed in the attack.
