On Firday, the Taliban attacked Maruf district in the eastern countryside of Qandahar and captured Maruf city. Security forces were pushed to retreat from the area after a series of firefights.
Maruf city is located in one of the most harsh and mountainous regions of Afghanistan. This is why its difficult for security forces and the Afghan Army to transfer and to use military equipment.
The Taliban claimed that during this operation its members killed 46 members of security forces as well as destroyed checkpoints and military equipment belonging to the army.
