On February 20, the ISIS-linked news agency Amaq reported that ISIS members had shelled a US military base in the Afghan city of Jalalabad with Grad-type unguided rockets.
The ISIS statement is likely a propaganda move aimed at promoting itself as a power fighting the Americans in Afghanistan to gain support from the local population. The group is involved in a fierce confrontation with the Taliban. The movement had contributed notable efforts to purge ISIS supporters. Ironically, the Taliban became the key factor limiting the ISIS influence in the war-torn country.
On the same day, the Afghan Ministry of Defense claimed that at least 20 Taliban members, including a local commander, had been killed over the past 24 hours. The ministry added that currently 14 offensive operations are underway in 14 provinces.
Meanwhile, the Taliban’s news agency Voice of Jihad reported that the movement had attacked 3 police check posts in the district of Nad Ali and had killed 20 service members and had destroyed a vehicle.
On February 19, Voice of Jihad reported that 8 police service members had been killed in a Taliban attack in the city of Lashkargah.
The situation near the city of Farah remained very complicated for government forces as the Taliban controls a wide area near it and reportedly prepares to storm the city itself.
Lol,they ship Isis into the country, and then they say that they are fighting them. This is fake news for the American sheeple
No doubt. Sort of like the story that Israel is bombing ISIS in the Sinai.
ISIS can not attack to their owner (USA), but certainly, they can pretend to do that to make believe the people other thing. As usual, ISIS-USA think that must of the people in the World are stupid.
ISIS attacking their masters. What a joke who are they fooling now
CENTCOM figured their scary ISIS proxies would do the job on the Taliban that their Afghan Army proxies are unable to do. US shipments of ISIS head-chopper ‘commanders’ (CIA/MOSSAD assets) and fighters from Syria to Afghanistan have been ramping up lately, but the Taliban really don’t seem to care. They shrug their shoulders and still go on killing any and all invaders/occupiers/outsiders that refuse to leave – just like they (and the non-Taliban Pashtun before them and other Afghan tribes) have done for the last few thousand years.
The US will never give up. My leaders are incapable of understanding the resolve of a people who don’t want US/GCC/EU help and sure as hell don’t want their ‘gift’ of a foreign-imposed, useless, corrupt, self-serving puppet government. A government broken from its inception in the same way that that the US government is currently broken: voting and the law are useless for the people to ever fix the government, itself. Afghans already realize there’s no point to choose between a select group of small-time thug warlords, self-serving oligarchs and psychopathic government-lifer bureaucrats – voting is a beauty contest among unfathomably ugly ‘candidates’ you are not allowed to see, with each one claiming they are the best looking. Likewise, Afghans know their laws and justice are a charade. There’s plenty of laws to protect the government and its authority from the little people, but not enough to protect the little people from the corrupt Afghan government.
It took decades of brainwashing here in the US to create a passive, unquestioning, sheep-like ‘victim’ population relying on or dependent on the government for everything (including whatever defines morality here). You can’t just cram that kind of exploitative, self-serving government down the Afghan’s throats by calling it ‘western democracy’. They’re on to you. Shut it down.
opinion – a view or judgment formed about something, NOT necessarily based on fact or knowledge.
U.S. citizens don’t have the security clearance for access to either facts or knowledge about our 16-year-long war in Afghanistan, Joe. Much of my opinion is based on accounts of Afghan vets about their adversaries and allies in that country. I didn’t ask them for a detailed list of authoritative citations – maybe they’re making it all up.
We should all probably just stick with the US government’s story because that’s kind of based on actual facts and real knowledge, right?
Absolutely correct! We can only talk about what we know because as you say all the juicy details and facts are hidden away from public view or access in filing cabinets marked ‘TOP SECRET’. Wouldn’t it be nice if we had the authority to access these files like they access our personal and private information? after all they are part of the government and it is OUR taxes that pay their wages?
Maybe they are making it up. Maybe you are being brainwashed.
Could be. I mean, the US government was right about Viet Nam. It was right about Libya. It was right about Iraq
You can chose to believe the delusional word of a vet.
Or I can chose to believe the reality created by my own government with it’s well-sanitized ‘facts and knowledge’ constantly being spoon-fed to me. Seems kind of creepy. I’ll go with the crazy vet.
Living in denial.
Things in Afghanistan are REALLY STARTING TO LOOK UP! For the first time in 17 years a Real President and a real military have a real plan to achieve vict’ry! We’re deluding the enemy. If we weren’t we’d tell ya.
