The Russian army continues offensive in various directions on the Ukrainian frontlines, including on the outskirts of the Donetsk city agglomeration in the Donetsk People’s Republic. At the end of 2023, Russian forces took control of Mariinka, which had been one of the main strongholds of the Kiev forces for almost a decade. In the first days of 2024, the Russian military achieve new gains in the area.
In the Donetsk direction, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are expanding the bridgehead west, northwest and south of Mariinka. After the liberation of Mariinka, Russian troops entered the village of Georhiivka. They are already advancing in the eastern part of the settlement.
It is symbolic that on Christmas Night the Russian army took control of the churches of St. George and All Saints.
“In the Kurahovo direction, Russian troops occupied the territory of the Church of St. George and the Church of All Saints in the eastern part of Georgievka. The advance in a section up to 320 m wide to a depth of 230 m,” the Ukrainian military sources confirmed Russian gains.
The Ukrainian military confirmed Russian control of Mariinka and is now calling this direction the Kurahovo one, confirming that the town located on the strongholds west of Georhiivka became the main stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in this line of defense.

it is russian style of war. now imagine the reverse scenario . imagine that china or russia would radicalize mexican proxies with maidan against us, provided them with manpads, cruise and ballistic missiles during “peace talks”, then provoke us “invasion” by killing us citizens and start shelling us civilian infrastructure deep in the us territory, calling it “justified”. i tell you us would use strategic bombers within the first day of the war, probably nuking them.

those fighting for ukraine need to find something worth fighting for.
the tide has turned obviously, but i do not get these socalled counterattacks without any tactical or strategic perspective. this is suicidal because they are trying to occupy killzones again.
such battles appear to have caused many of the ukraine’s massive casualties. to a distant watcher, it also seems to be driving the gradual disintegration of their army. demonstrating too a lack of desire to occupy more of the ukraine – though such a view risks the unoccupied ukraine becoming occupied by nato in the event of formal ukrainian surrender.

as germany is determined to deliver taurus cruise missiles to ukraine (500km range, 1400kg warhead), it absolutely necessary for russia to take decisive actions to protect regions like belgorod, rostov voronez and crimea . open google map and draw a circle 500km and check. the frontline should be somewhere on odesa – kiev perimeter, not on donetsk’s suburbs otherwise there will be thousands of victims in the deep russia territory.
