The Ahrar Al-Sham militant group (US-backed) is going to use white phosphorus in an attack on civilians to blame it on the Syrian government forces, UN envoy Bashar Ja’afari told during the UN Security Council emergency meeting on September 25.
“I have information that Ahrar Al-Sham terrorists intend to mount attacks on civilian population using white phosphorus for the sake of fabricating accusations against the Syrian state and its army,” the Russian state-run news agency ‘TASS’ cited the Syrian diplomat.
Ja’afari said that Ahrar Al-Sham members plan to pose as Syrian army troops (wearing the Syrian army uniform and filming the attack) as they deploy the banned substance.
There is no information about the source of the intelligence.
