FILE IMAGE: Russian Special Operations Forces troops are in Syria
The “Wa Harid al-Muminin” operations room announced on August 4 that its militants had foiled a special operation by Russian forces in northwestern Hama.
According to a press release by the al-Qaeda-affiliated operations room, Russian special forces attempted to advance towards the key town of Khirbat al-Naqus. However, heavy clashes forced the Russian unit to withdraw.
“Two of the Mujahidin were martyred while repelling [the attack],” the operations room acknowledged in the statement.
The Wa Harid al-Muminin was formed last year by Jamat Ansar al-Islam, Horas al-Din, Jabhat Ansar al-Islam and Ansar al-Tawhid. Since its establishment, the operations room has been working to sabotage any peaceful agreement.

The Russian Defense Ministry has not commented on the operations room’s claims, yet. The ministry usually announce any losses within a few hours.
Idlib militants often refer to Syrian forces as Russian, or even Iranian in an attempt to portray the conflict as a struggle against the foreign intervention.
One suspects the silenced weapons of Al Qaeda in Idlib, comes as a direct result of the silenced weapons of the Russian special operations forces.
