On July 15, al-Qaeda-affiliated Ansar al-Tawhid launched a Zilzal heavy improvised rocket at the government-held town of Hizareen in the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib.
The group claimed that the rocket targeted a gathering of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) inside the town. Nevertheless, no casualties or material losses were reported.
The Zilzal is a makeshift rocket propelled by a number of Grad 122 mm boosters. According to opposition activists, the rocket weights 1,500 kilograms. Such poorly-made improvised rockets are known for lacking accuracy.
This was not the first use of the Zilzal rocket. A rocket of this type was launched at Hizareen on June 11. A second rocket was fired at the town of Ma’arat Mukhs on June 22.
The rocket strike was yet another violation of the ceasefire agreement in Greater Idlib. The region’s militants violate the ceasefire on a daily basis right under the eyes of thousands of Turkish troops who are supposed to implement the ceasefire agreement.
A day earlier, Turkish-backed militants destroyed a battle tank of the SAA with an anti-tank guided missile. The army responded with a series of artillery strikes.
Ansar al-Tawhid rocket strike will not go unpunished. The SAA and its allies, including the Russian Aerospace Forces, will likely respond to the strike and other recent ceasefire violations in the upcoming few days, if not hours.
Get back to me when the SAA and the Russians decide to liberate Idlib.
To me too.
This desperate action didn’t work for Hitler. It won’t work for mercenaries fighting for the yanky dollar. They would work for the Turkish Lira, but its worthless.
Their idiotic qaeda improvised rocket has an accuracy of +/- 5 kilometers.
