Al-Qaeda Terrorists Launch New Heavy Improvised Rocket At Northern Hama Town (Video)

On August 1, al-Qaeda-affiliated Ansar al-Tawhid released a video showing its fighters launching a heavy improvised rocket-assisted munition (IRAM), dubbed al-Burkan, on the government held town of Alhakorh in northern Hama.

The IRAM consists of a large central section housing the warhead. Four Grad 122mm rocket boosters attached to the central section’s sides provide the propulsion.

The idea of using multiple rocket boosters may appear to be simple. However, any latency in the ignition of any of the four boosters could result in a dangerous reduce of accuracy, or even complete failure.

Local sources in Alhakorh didn’t report any unusual shelling on the town or on the military positions around it. This suggests that the IRAM failed to hit its target.

In the last few months, several radical groups in Greater Idlib showcased similar heavy IRAMs in what appears to be desperate attempts to raise the morale of their supporters and fighters.
