Algeria is going to buy over 300 Russian-made BMPT-72 Terminator-2 tank support combat vehicles (TSCV), the Algerian media outlet Menadefense reported on September 9.
According to the report, Russia and Algeria signed a deal on delivery of Terminator-2 TSCVs in 2016 and Moscow will deliver the ordered combat vehicles in 2017-2018 to the Algerian military.
Algeria is going to use Terminator-2 TSCVs in order to support T-90SA main battle tanks bought from Russia earlier. Now, the Algerian military uses technical vehicles equipped with Kornet ATGM launchers and ZSU Shilka self-propelled, radar guided anti-aircraft weapon systems for this task.
Well Algeria was against USA’s intervention in Libya crisis Algeria even supported Assad in Syrian war Therefore, I think Algerians could be trusted :) Algeria seems like a peaceful country. They’ll only use these weapons to protect themselves.
I work there, and Algeria is reasonably peaceful, although the north has an Islamist problem. I think the government sees these vehicles as a means of combating that threat.
The area of ISIS and Al Qaeda training bases near the Libyan border , easy to recruit terrorists to that region.
Algeria supports Assad in Syria. Right. But one day you have to renew your military equipment and that is the reason why Algeria bought from Russia, a long termed partner of Algeria. Algeria is as long peaceful as the neighbors will behave peaceful. But they will because the algerian military is strong.
Algeria is being smart. I hope the Syrians learned their lessons and know that a well-equipped and trained army is a necessity, not an luxury as they rebuild. Also, while strong armoured divisions are necessary to combat the rats and cockroaches, good air, missile and coastal defences are also a must to keep the vultures at bay. You have to be able to keep their aircraft and ships at a distant and shoot down incoming missiles.
Israel have trade, economic and military relations with America not with Russia second Israeli terrorists have damaged Russia during Afghan war in 1980 and have interference in Ukraine and Georgia. Then whats the problem that not shooting down Israeli planes over Syria, Lebanon and Jordan?
This is a big question..
They don’t shot down Israeli planes because it isn’t in Russia’s national interest to get into a war with Israel.
I think one missile is enough for whole Israel. But Israeli terrorists are 2% and Palestinians ate 98%. So Russia cannot wipe out whole Israel. If there were only Israeli terrorists in Palestine then Russia can use missile.
Not yet anyway :)
The funny thing is that it is. Israel and International-Jewry in general eggs on and pushes Europe and USSA to hurt Russia more and more. Israel is at war against all Christians and Monotheist in general. They are strangeling the Christian city Bethlehem right now as we speak.
But Israel air force air striks and intelligence network killing poor servicemen of Russia and their allies in Syria.
When did an Israeli airstrike kill Russians in Syria? And where did this take place? A link would be appreciated please.
It’s a question of image.
Don’t forget the Zionist Jew Oligarchs who looted Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
This sale suggests that there may be generally unseen combat footage from Syria of these vehicles to demonstrate their capabilities to the Algerians. Just a thought.
They could be deployed in a defensive position with infantry support in providing defensive cover fire against armor.
Maybe Algerian IS members youtubing out of the Hama pocket, on the recieving end?
Now for Russia to supply Syria with the Terminators.
The reason why Russian military didn’t originally order Terminator is same reason why it makes for great export vehicle contract. Because it is retrofitted onto older Soviet era ‘T’ chassis platform, whereas Russia has new chassis development platform with Armata line. But if are third party country and have few dozen T-72’s sitting around in storage, they can easily be converted over to this tank/urban support vehicle, absolutely bristling with weaponry and advanced fire control systems, by the relevant Russian development firm.
Thank you for the explanation, Bob.
Since Russia is so good at building modern tanks and other military equipment and selling them to other countries, why haven’t they been able to make a world class automobile..?
Maybe because they are building SS-18 Satans, T-90s et al, who needs to build their own cars when you can buy Japanese or German cheap with gas, coal, oil and minerals in exchange?
Mineral resources, you say? How about selling nuclear power plants with maintenance and supply contracts for the next few decades? Or totally dominating nuclear fuel market due to our refining technologies being 3 times more efficient than european and 50 times than american? Oil refining is seen as much more prestigious than selling crude oil, so why the double standarts for othet industries?
SS-18 Satans I say – yes indeed I did. T-90s I say, yes indeed I did! You can nitpick about every pedantic thing not mentioned but all this is doing is showing your autism and lack of ability to ascertain an overall perspective from a few words short and sweet. Im sure there are many things but I am not going to mention all eleven trilion nine hundred and sixty four billion of them – feel free to list them all if you like to do so then we can rejoice as some autistic neet howls at you for forgetting something minor and largely insignificant.
What do you mean by “world class”? And why should we put significant effort into an industry way past it’s best days? We have AvtoVaz, a subsidiary of Renault-Nissan, producing modern enough Ladas: Kalina, Vesta, Xray, etc. We produce foreign brands domestically, so people have a lot to choose from even before considering something imported.
And we do produce tons of technical/cargo vehicles, some of them are famous like Kamaz. Agricultural machines are especially successful currently. It’s much more productive to develop driverless solutions for those compared to personal autos, and I assure you THAT is the pie we are very intent on taking big share of.
That is quite a complex question. At one level is about differing economics of the consumer auto sector and military hardware sector. Differing countries have historically had differing ideological approaches and thus allocation of resources to operation of these respective vehicle markets. At another level is about the differing core design principles relating to the cultures within those historical environments. Thus, for example, a western European consumer transport-haulage vehicle may have more features and comfort than a Russian version – but the Russian version is designed to be adequate with longer service life. The answer is multi-layered.
Getting ready for the next “regime change” Arab spring to be pulled by the usual suspects.
Not in Algeria. The military is loyal.
So was Syrias – dont underestimate the Empire!
The Medina Division of the Iraqi republican guard was the only one that actually fought, the rest its commanders being bought off for millions each.
