Flights of the Sukhoi Su-34 fighter-bombers have been suspended throughout Russia following a jet crash in the Far East, the Russian state-run news agency TASS reported on January 18 citing a source in the Defense Ministry.
“Flights of the Su-34 bombers have been suspended throughout the country,” TASS quoted the source.
Earlier on January 18, two Su-34 fighter-bombers reportedly collided in mid-air over the Strait of Tatary in Russia’s Khabarovsk Region. Two pilot died in the incident. Another one was rescued. The fate of the fourth pilot is unknown.
The rescue operation is ongoing.

Actually the media reported that only one aircraft crashed and the 2 pilots saved, while the other one made it back to base with one engine.

As far i understand they had a MAC (Mid air collision) and then one of the birds crashed?
i understood it like you, according to some medias. But rt.com has later confirmed sf version.
How could they crashed in the mid-air? Don’t they have anykind of warning system if another jet approaches inside dangerous perimeter?

In 2009, two Rafale fighters collided in mid-air.
It was Cyclone conditions out there, maybe it was strong wind that blew them together suddenly as they were flying side by side. Or, low visibility, pilot error etc.
Difficult to understand how this tragedy could happen, in the wide open skies over eastern sea of Okhotsk.
Those planes were downed by EW hence the suspension of all flights of SU34. Pilot error doesn’t warrant grounding of SU34. Looks like the dumb yanks just upped the anti. Russia will respond but how remains the elusive question.
