On the night of November 3–4, Russia and Ukraine continued their exchange of strikes. According to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defence, Russian air defence systems destroyed 85 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). For its part, the Ukrainian Air Force reported repelling a mass attack, during which Russian forces used one Iskander-M ballistic missile, six S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles, and 130 attack UAVs, 92 of which were shot down or suppressed.
According to Sky News, since the start of 2025, Russia has launched approximately 44,000 Geran UAVs of various modifications at Ukraine, a figure four times higher than the 2024 tally, which saw around 11,000 launches. Against this backdrop, Germany has definitively ruled out the possibility of transferring Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, as reported by Handelsblatt citing government sources. Instead, Berlin intends to increase financial aid to Kyiv by allocating an additional three billion euros within the federal budget for 2026. The total volume of support will reach 8.5 billion euros, which is planned for the purchase of artillery systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, armoured vehicles, and two Patriot air defence systems. Sources from the publication emphasise that the issue of Taurus missiles is permanently closed due to fears of escalating the conflict. In response, Ukraine has intensified its own developments, such as the Flamingo cruise missile, which, according to statements by Kyiv authorities, is already being used on a limited scale.
Russian Armed Forces carried out strikes on targets in several Ukrainian regions overnight. In Kramatorsk, a series of coordinated attacks using Geran-2, Molniya-2, and Italmas UAVs was recorded. The first strike at 23:30 on November 3 hit the Dovator Street area, where houses were damaged and a vehicle used for AFU logistics was destroyed. The second strike targeted a building on Rumyantsev Street, which, according to radio intercept data, was used as an observation post. The third strike partially destroyed a structure on Dovator Street that served as a temporary personnel placement point. In Sloviansk, a Geran-2 strike was delivered near the Azimut gas station, where AFU supply equipment was located.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, a strike by Russian Grad MLRS on a temporary deployment point of Ukrainian units was recorded.
In Pokrovskoe, Dnipropetrovsk region, FAB aerial bombs with planning and correction modules were used, leading to the destruction of AFU pickup trucks and damage to a deployment point. Russian strikes were also recorded in Petropavlovka and Nikolaevka in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Strikes also affected objects in Odesa region, including port infrastructure and ship repair facilities in Izmail and the Danube area, while in Kharkiv, attacks targeted an industrial zone.
Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory were primarily concentrated on energy and petrochemical infrastructure. The largest number of UAVs were shot down over Voronezh (40 units), Nizhny Novgorod (20 units), and Belgorod (10 units) regions.
Key affected facilities included the Frolovskaya electrical substation in Volgograd region, where a fire broke out, and a substation in Rylsk, Kursk region, which left more than 16,000 consumers without electricity.
In Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod region, the attack targeted the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery and the SIBUR-Kstovo petrochemical plant, with local residents reporting explosions and fires.
In Bashkortostan, drones attacked the Sterlitamak petrochemical plant, causing a partial collapse of a water treatment workshop.
Against the backdrop of these events, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during an awards ceremony for developers of the latest weapon systems, announced the start of serial production of the Oreshnik missile system. He emphasised that all plans for creating prospective systems and developing the defence-industrial complex are being fulfilled. Putin also confirmed that Sarmat missiles would assume combat duty next year, and that tests of the Poseidon and Burevestnik systems were part of long-announced work. According to him, the Burevestnik surpasses all known missile systems in flight range, while the Poseidon possesses a speed multiple times greater than that of modern surface ships. The technologies developed for these systems could also be applied to enhance Russia’s unmanned aerial vehicles and its military capabilities in the Arctic.
