On August 1oth, the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) carried out a series of air strikes, targeting militant positions in the Jabal al-Zawiya area in the Syrian province of Idlib. The military headquarters of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, located on the outskirts of the town of Balshon on Mount Zawiya were reportedly destroyed.
The VKS are striking Idlib for the second day in a row. On August 9, at least 4 air strikes targeted Zawiyathe fortifications of the Turkish-backed militants in Idlib governorate.
The airstrikes coincided with heavy artillery strikes by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) on militants’ positions in southern Idlib.
The VKS have recently stepped up its combat operations against HTS and its allies. According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, more than 80 Russian air strikes hit southern Idlib in July.
