The Russian Ministry of Defenses has provided a detailed summary of Ukrainian losses during the fourteenth week of the so-called spring counteroffensive.
According to the ministry, the Russian military carried out six group strikes with high-precision long-range missiles and drones against port infrastructure facilities, production and storage sites for unmanned boats, depots for oil, ammunition and Western-supplied weapons as well as locations where Ukrainian troops were deployed between September 9 and 16.
The logistical support for Kiev forces in the Donetsk and Zaporozhye directions and supplies of Western-made weapons were disrupted as a result of the pinpoint strikes, the ministry said, adding that a large arsenal of ammunition was also destroyed.
“On 11 September, the Russian Aerospace Forces launched a strike on the Dolgintsevo airfield near Krivoy Rog. The strike destroyed two MiG-29 fighters and three Su-25 ground-attack aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force, according to revised data,” the ministry said.
The ministry also provided details about the combat situation in different directions within the special military operation zone over the past week.
In the Donetsk direction, Kiev forces did not abandon plans to capture Artyomovsk, also known as Bakhmut. The 28th, 93rd Mechanized, 80th Air Assault and 3rd Assault brigades made several unsuccessful attempt to push the Russian military out from Kleshcheevka and Andreevka, according to the ministry.
“Over the past week in this direction, units of the Yug Group of Forces repelled 34 attacks launched by AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] units, as a result of which the enemy lost more than 1,700 servicemen killed and wounded, 16 tanks and other armored fighting vehicles, 34 motor vehicles and 12 field artillery pieces,” the ministry said.
And in the Zaporozhye direction, Russian forces repelled 18 Ukrainian attacks close to Rabotino and Verbovoye during the past week.
“As a result of significant manpower losses, the Ukrainian command was forced to begin withdrawing the 82nd Air Assault Brigade to the rear area in order to recover combat capability,” the ministry said.
According to the ministry, the 71st Jaeger Brigade from Ukraine’s strategic reserve, along with combined assault groups of the 47th, 65th Mechanized and 46th Airmobile brigades are now involved in this operation to hold locations.
“The enemy suffered losses of about 740 Ukrainian personnel, 20 tanks and armored fighting vehicles, and 20 motor vehicles throughout the battles,” the ministry said. “In addition, 38 enemy field artillery guns were eliminated as part of counter-battery warfare.”
In the South Donetsk direction, Russian forces repelled eight attacks and inflicted heavy losses on Kiev forces during the week.
“During interrogations, Ukrainian servicemen who voluntarily surrendered complain about the psychological condition and extremely low morale of the 36th and 38th brigades of the AFU Marines due to considerable losses in manpower,” the ministry said.
Up to 1,100 troops were killed or wounded in this direction. In addition, 15 armored fighting vehicles, 22 motor vehicles and seven field artillery pieces were destroyed.
In the Kupyansk direction, the Russian Zapad Group of Forces improved their tactical position in their areas of responsibility.
Five counter attacks launched by Ukraine’s 30th Mechanised and 25th Airborne Brigades were repelled. The group’s aviation and artillery inflicted heavy losses on the attackers.
“Enemy losses amounted to up to 400 troops, five armored fighting vehicles, 17 motor vehicles, 17 field artillery pieces and one multiple rocket launcher,” the ministry said, adding that “seven field ammunition depots of AFU units were also destroyed.”
In the Krasny Liman direction, Kiev forces made unsuccessful attempts to regain lost positions near Torskoye and in the Serebryansky forestry, according to the ministry.
The Russian Tsentr Group of Forces repelled 13 attacks. Ukrainian losses during the fighting in this direction amounted to 400 troops, 18 armored fighting vehicles, 12 motor vehicles and ten guns.
Meanwhile in the Kherson direction, the main efforts of Russian forces were concentrated on preventing Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups from landing on the islands and the left bank of the Dnepr River, as well as conducting counter-battery warfare.
Kiev forces lost 360 troops, one tank, two armored fighting vehicles, 26 motor vehicles and 12 field artillery pieces in this direction, according to the ministry.
In addition, the ministry said that a Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopter was intercepted by Russian fighter jets on 13 September over Krasny Liman.
The aviation and warship of the Black Sea Fleet also located and destroyed 12 unmanned semi-submersible boats and three fast boats that were transporting landing groups of Kiev forces in the Black Sea.
Moreover, Russian defense systems intercepted 19 HIMARS precision-guided rockets and shot down 270 Ukrainian drones of different types.
“In total, 472 airplanes and 249 helicopters, 6,810 unmanned aerial vehicles, 437 air defense missile systems, 11,881 tanks and other armored fighting vehicles, 1,150 combat vehicles equipped with MLRS, 6,403 field artillery cannons and mortars, as well as 13,035 units of special military equipment have been destroyed during the special military operation,” the ministry concluded.
In addition to the information provided by the ministry, lostarmour.info, a website that tracks military losses, documented nine strikes with Lancet loitering munitions and 138 strikes with FPV suicide drones against Kiev forces over the past week.
With autumn nearing its end, very few weeks are left for the Ukrainian counteroffensive before the weather begins to worsen. It is highly unlikely that Kiev forces will be able to make any significant gains before winter. The Russian military will likely continue to hold onto its positions across the front.
