Another leader of ISIS was reportedly eliminated in the course of the ongoing Russian-backed security operation in the town of Jasim in the western countryside of Syria’s Daraa.
Early on October 21, the dead body of the terrorist leader, Rami Faleh al-Salkhdi, was ditched in the main square of Jasim. Al-Salkhadi was reportedly captured early on in the operation by local fighters. He was apparently executed after being interrogated by them.
The Syrian military, intelligence and several Russian-backed groups of local fighters launched the security operation on October 14. The operation is a response to the October 13 bus bombing in the capital, Damascus, which claimed the lives of 18 soldiers. ISIS cells in Jasim were reportedly behind the terrorist attack.
More than 20 terrorists of ISIS have been eliminated since the start of the operation in Jasim. A number of the slain terrorists were leaders, including an Iraqi national.
The Syrian military have been preparing for the security operation and amassing its troops near Jasim since August. The town was under the de-facto control of ISIS. The terrorist group’s cells established a network of hideouts and even their own court there.
The security operation will not likely end until all of ISIS cells in Jasim are neutralized. The Syrian military, intelligence and local fighters could then move to cleanse other towns and villages in Daraa countryside from the terrorist group.
In the last few months, ISIS lost many of its terrorists, including three of its top leaders in southern Syria, as a result of similar security operations in Daraa.
