The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said on May 16 that a reservist was killed in an “operational accident” on the border with the Gaza Strip.

The soldier, who was serving in the Bislamach Brigade’s 6828th Battalion, was killed in a blast caused by Israeli munitions in a military zone near the Black Arrow memorial site, hundreds of meters inside Israel, the IDF said in a statement.

Four other soldiers were lightly injured in the accident, according to the IDF, which noted that an investigation was launched.

The deaths brought the toll of slain troops in the IDF ground offensive against the Hamas Movement and other Palestinian armed factions in Gaza and in operations on the border to 279. A civilian Defense Ministry contractor was also killed in Gaza earlier this week.

The IDF intensified operations in different parts of Gaza in recent days. Israeli troops pushed deep into the Jabaliya refugee camp in the northern part of the Strip on May 16, facing rocket-propelled grenades and mortar shells fired by Palestinian fighters.

Many of the fighters in Jabaliya were killed, the IDF said, without providing any more details on the ongoing ground operation there.

In the southern Gaza area of Rafah, where residents reported heavy Israeli bombardments, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced that more troops would be deployed there.

“This operation will continue with additional forces that will enter [the area]. Several tunnels in the area have been destroyed by our forces and more tunnels will be destroyed soon,” Gallant said in remarks provided by his office.

Hamas and other factions have been shelling Israeli troops in the Rafah direction. Nevertheless, clashes remain limited there.

It’s worth noting that the Israeli war on Gaza has so far claimed the lives of 35,272 Palestinians and left more than 79,205 others wounded, according to the latest update by the Hamas-run health ministry in the Strip. Most of the victims were women and children.

In addition to the high number of casualties, the Israeli war has pushed 85% of Gaza’s population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, while 60% of the Strip’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the United Nations.

‘the deaths brought the toll of slain troops.. ..to 279’

soldiers aren’t ‘slain’ they are ‘kia’. they accept the risk of injury or death. 35,000+ dead (in this conflict alone) plst civilians (most women and children) didn’t accept that risk.

why the sf fuss over murderous zio-nzi thugs? 80% gazan homes and infrastructure destroyed = isr succeeding! all because palestine’s ‘friends’ (excpt houthi/hezb) are cowards, bought and sold by zio-usa.

ussr where art thou?

Bobo

turkey should impose an oil embargo on israel along with all other oil producing countries

B.F.Finlayson

even if turkiye had cut oil off a month ago it would have still been too late. usa has freely plundered syrian oil (+ grain) for isr . saudi does as it’s told, as do other gulf countries. iran is scared.

isr has demolished gaza, settled the west bnk, pushed into egypt and wiped out 10% palestians in 6 pe-planned months of nato backed carnage. isr will emerge victorious, but us-shills like ritter try and paint a different picture for the benefit of token us protesters.

Boob

israel has already lost this war and their own generals even acknowledge it. iran is definitely not scared — israel is the one that is scared. israel has been shown no one is scared of them anymore. october 7 was the worst thing that could have ever happened to israel apart from being physically wiped out. it has never suffered such isolation. for a group like hamas to have caused this and still be strong after all the carnage, israel’s reputation and deterrence is irreparably destroyed.

B.F.Finlayson

isr generals are being told what to say as part of the bigger psy op, just like ritter. all play their part.

october 7 was a set up to justify isr’s long planned genocide of the palestinian people and physical destruction of the last remnants of their presence. this hitherto unthinkable genocide is succeeding with full nato assistance as all the human rights lawyers, un agencies, western governments and supposed friends of palestine (such as rus, prc etc) look the other way.

B.F.Finlayson

hamas, brave as they are, have been played by zio-usa; each day hundreds more plstn kids are murdered. isr will take the whole of this stolen land and, in the fullness of time, be rehabilitated by the usa et al.

there’ll have to be a scapegoat, of course, and ntnyhu will gladly take on this role (knowing that most israelis will secretly still honour his name as their saviour). and certainly preferable to corruption charges and imprisonment being his enduring legacy.

B.F.Finlayson

palestine, however, can never be palestinian again. under the rubble of gaza are not only thousands of bodies but a culture that was condemned to death by (most of..) the rest of the world, if only by inaction. rus, prc, iran and turkiye first and foremost.

ussr would have never allowed this to happen. and it would have escalated to ww3 rather than back down on its commitment to palestine. everyone knew this in the 60s and 70s.

Icarus Tanović

no man, iran is definitely not scared. they just have enormous patience.

B.F.Finlayson

it seems when it comes to palestine just about all neighbouring countries have ‘enormous patience’. problem is this ‘enormous patience’ is at the expense of the palestinian people, land and culture.

i guess if iran et al remain patient palestine will be eventually wiped off the map and these counties can be ‘enormously saddened’ instead? maybe one of them could then call for the un to pass a resolution condemning the destruction of palestine, eh? of course usa will veto it.

jens.cum.drop

look, the truth is jews re luciferian, devil worshipping scum. no humans have liked the filthy jew and the hook nosed animal is angry and violent as it earns zero respect. when the devil spawn jew is gone humanity will be free

Icarus Tanović

they’ll never do that. they’re best friends with zios.

MotherTeresa

ussr was establish by jews (leo bronstein aka trotzky & lenin aka mr. zederblum, grandson of rabbi moises blank), send in from us wallstreet (with bags full of cash) to russia to murder the legitimate ru czar and mio of russians, make revolution & establish jewish erez sovietica there. ussr same as its reshaped version (rf) is a fully jewish construction. maybe you didnt know that ?

MotherTeresa

so maybe now you understand why “ussr” and putin dont give a ratsfart about russian, let alone palestinian lifes !!

you are turning a blind eye to the fact that the real cultural and political strength of the ussr grew from the blood of the working russian people and was forged in the heat of battle against tsarist forces and then nazi germany.

although never perfect, the ussr grew beyond the control of its mentors or foreign powers, as the idea proved stronger than those who wished to manipulate it. at least it did until the arrival of gorbachev.
