Another Turkish Officer Killed In Iraqi Kurdistan

On May 24, the Turkish Defense Ministry reported that a 25-year-old serviceman of the Turkish Armed Forces had died during the operation in northern Iraq. He was injured during the landing and died of wounds in the hospital.

The same day, the Turkish Defense Ministry has published a video of the elimination of four Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) fighters in the Iraqi province of Dakuk. According to the Turkish special services, two pickup trucks loaded with weapons, which arrived from the territories controlled by the Kurds in Syria.

On the other side, the press center of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG) reported that at least seven Turkish soldiers were killed in the most recent Kurdish actions in the attacked regions of Zap, Avashin and Metina. Two other military personnel were injured, according to HPG figures.​

The Turkish military launched the joint Claw-Lightning and Claw-Thunderbolt operations against PKK cells in Kurdistan on April 23th. They are still ongoing in the areas of Metina, Zap and Avashin-Basyan. At the same time, Ankara carries out security operations against PKK members within the country’s borders. On May 24, at least 47 suspects allegedly linked to the PKK terror group have been arrested across Turkey, according to security sources. A total of 18 suspects allegedly linked to the PKK/KCK terror group have been arrested in Adana, Sirnak, and Tunceli provinces during simultaneous anti-terror operations.
