Another US-backed ‘moderate rebel’ group, the Free Syrian Army’s Second Central Battalion has announced that it joins the Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra) terrorist group. The group, led by Ahmad al-Qasom, released a statement that it leaved the Suqour al-Sham Brigade and joined al-Nusra.
We recall the Free Syrian Army is the same ‘moderate opposition’ that Washington likes to refer to prove that there are “good guys” against the Assad government in Syria.
The Suqour al-Sham Brigade is a US-backed militant group well known for coordination with Jabhat al-Nusra and Ahrar al-Sham. In March 2015, it merged with Ahrar ash-Sham. Then the Suqour al-Sham Brigade left Ahrar al-Sham in September 2016 and joined Jaish al-Fatah (Army of Conquest). Ahrar al-Sham and Jabhat al-Nusra are also members of Jaish al-Fatah.
