On Wednesday, a gunman opened fire on Republican lawmakers practicing near Washington for a charity baseball game.
The attacker wounded at least 5 people, including house majority whip Steve Scalise, according to media reports. The gunman was armed with a rifle. He was shot before being taken into custody.
Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, a true friend and patriot, was badly injured but will fully recover. Our thoughts and prayers are with him.

The shooter was identified as 66-year-old James Hodgkinson of Belleville, Ill., according to law enforcement officials.

The attacker’s Facebook page allows to see that he is not a Trump supporter.

My daily carry is a Kel-Tec P32 handgun pocket pistol without a holster using a pinky grip extension on a 7 round magazine in the well and 2 additional loaded 10 round extended magazines for reload. And a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 folding carbine in .40 S&W in a 9 inch by 17 inch soft case in my vehicle or a shoulder bag. With one loaded 10 round magazine in the well and 2 loaded 10 round magazines in the soft case mag holders. Using flat nose penetration rounds for anti material capability. For a total of 3 .32 and 3 .40 mags for 6 altogether. With a 50 round box of .32 APC and a 50 round box of .40 S&W in my 18 inch shoulder bag. I also have 30 round mags for the Sub 2000.
I have much heavier weapons, but the above is my daily carry for my existing threat assessment. If I’d been at the ball park, I would have gone after the shooter if I thought that it would have been helpful. And wouldn’t have interfered with the 2 police officers in the congressman’s security detail. Who from the looks of it may have been out gunned, both of whom evidently got shot, with one being incapacitated, and the other returning fire while injured.
At the distances involved, a Sub 2000 in .40 S&W with a 16 inch barrel, which is comparable in ballistics to a .44 magnum handgun, and with much better long range accuracy, would have been a much better match against the shooter than police hand guns. And with special forces, USMC, shooting academy and private security training. Depending on where I was when the shooting started, I might have been able to stop the shooter with fewer people being injured.
