On June 14, an Iranian Arab separatist group, doubted “the Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahwaz”, claimed to have blown up an oil pipeline in the city of Ahvaz. The group says the oil pipeline has been blown in response to the recent arrests of activists in Ahvaz by Iranian security forces.
Ahvaz is the capital of Iran’s southwestern province of Khuzestan.
Iranian state and local media did not cover the incident. Some sources argue that the pipeline hasn’t faced a significant damage. The Khuzestan province is situated along the Iranian-Iraqi border and has long history unrest against the central government.
The Arab Struggle Movement for the Liberation of Ahwaz, that seeks to set a separate Arab state in the Khuzestan province, is classified as a terrorist group by the Iranian government.
